Just a quick update re: Siggraph. Curious Labs has a booth, and has some Daz reps there also. Nothing new, as far as products are concerned. They are showing Poser 4, the Pro Pack, and also pushing Mimic, the Pro Pack book, the Daz Michael and Victoria CDs, Mimic, and EGI SYS apps. re:Poser/Pro Pack - I HAVE to get one of those large size LCDs that everyone at the show is showing their products on... re: Poser 5, no announcement. When asked, I was referred to the web page, where all formal announcements will be made. My guess is that it is still a ways off... Cool running movie showing off Poser/Pro Pack. Lots of familiar images posted around the booth from the Daz site. Got a free Daz calendar. All of the work looks great at the larger size (great job, everyone). One last thing, directed at Curious Labs - you guys gonna give away the purple bean bag chairs? If so, I WANT ONE!!!!! :) Gotta run to todays show. - Ray

Nothing else to report from the Siggraph, only stayed one day but it was fun meeting everyone. And don't try taking the monitors, they frown on that...lol Marque

Thanks for the update for those of us who could not make it. Hope some others follow. I was hoping to hear something on Poser 5. Too bad no news on it yet. jon

I talked to Steve while I was there and he said that there is no date for 5 right now, so I would say we will see it when we see it. I'm not holding my breath for it, I'm just going to learn as much of 4 and the pro pack as I can so I'll be ready for 5 when it comes out. Marque

Yeah, I went back today so I could sit it on the demos for all of the major products (Maya, 3DS, Softimage)... Went back to the CL booth, met Anthony today, bought the Pro Pack at the show (along with a lot of other software elsewhere), tried to weasle some P5 info out of Anthony (no dice). Became a demo slut for a couple of companies, who recognized me from yesterday, and were performing payback for questions I asked them in front of the audience... Hopefully CL will release the rolling Poser video online. It is kinda cool for people who only see static images (which it also has). Luckily next year it is in San Antonio, just down the street from my parents in Austin, so hopefully they will have a big annoucement then... - Ray

Actually, I also went to the Curious Labs booth at SIGGRAPH yesterday and it provided me with one of the few high points (for me) of the day. There, getting a complete run-down of everything Poser has to offer, was a fellow by the name of...DICK VAN DYKE!!! I've known for some time that Dick Van Dyke was into computer graphics. He was a frequent visitor to Amiga shows here in L.A. back when the Amiga was really happening. And he was written up several times in Amiga Video Toaster magazines and articles. Obviously he has now joined the world of Poser fanatics!! I saw him getting heavily into conversations with the Curious Labs guys and he talked to them very enthusiastically for a long time. I left to go visit some other booths. When I came back some minutes later, he was still there, now sitting down and getting a hands-on demo of Poser from one of the guys. So there you have it! Rob Petrie is a Poser fanatic! Or was it Bert the chimney sweep? Well, anyway, you heard it here first! Semp.

Hey guys, Thanks for the good feedback about Siggraph. I'm glad that some of you were able to make it by our booth. The demo reel that was playing during the show will be put up on our web site at some point soon. Ray: the purple bean-less chairs aren't for giveaway (sorry), but you can buy online at www.qualitytrading.com and they are pretty cheap. Keep your eyes out for an update to our Siggraph story in the Lab Report. We have a lot of cool stuff to talk about. You'll read about Syyd and Colm visiting our booth and doing a demo on Vicky 2; Audre was giving away posters and hanging out; and Cris Palomino did a great demo as well. You'll see photos of our gallery, the Curious Labs folks, pics of our special visitor, Dick Van Dyke, and much, much more. Thanks for your support. Karen Carpenter Curious Labs
