Subject: Vue 9 Complete is S-L-O-W

Hi...

 

Any performance tweaks for Vue 9 Complete? I'm getting the "not responding" message alot when I'm moving about in the camera display windows... It also happens when I move from the 3D window to the top, front or side... Vue after a while will snap out of the wait state but it sure takes the fun out of Vue...

My computer is an AMD tri-core X3 710 (2.6) with 8 gbs of DDR2 memory. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version. My Windows Experience Index is 5.8 (according to Control Panel in Win 7)... Video card is a Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 with 1 gb of memory and the latest NVidia drivers...

All other apps work very well with this setup (ArtRage, Corel Paint Shop X3, Photoshop Elements 9, 3D Coat 3.5, Hexagon 2.5, Wings3D, free version of Sketchup 8)...

This is a fresh install of Windows 7 with all the of Windows and Vue updates...

I'm using the following display options in Vue

OpenGL 2.1 (shader 4)

Enable background draw

OpenGL texturing options - apply texture maps to Polygon meshes

I've attached a screen capture of my display settings as well....

Any suggestions or tips?

How much dynamic hair is in your scene?  That's the only thing that hangs my Vue when the camera is pointed at some.  My Vue settings are using the default.

No hair... I only loaded the primitive castle model that is included with Vue. No terrain or atmosphere....

I'm guessing you already tried using the OpenGL (fixed hardware pipeline) then to see if Vue is faster.  OpenGL 2.1 (shader 4) requires hyper-technology, which my system doesn't even begin to approach.

Yup tried the fixed pipeline as well... a little better but not significantly....

Increase the max usable video memory.

Turn down the background draw and plant background draw sliders a bit toward faster. You have them set to max quality.

As Peggy said, your background draws are set too high. I keep them about 2 thirds to the right. Also, you can modify the  usable memory to something around 850 megs, yours is set too low, and only lets Vue use 128megs out of your 1gig of GPU ram.

I always set the little preview render window to only render on click so it doesn't take over at inopertune moments.
