Subject: Python scripts don't work In PPro 2010 on Win764bit

pjanak ( ) posted Sun, 27 March 2011 at 10:22 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 5:35 PM

It appears that Occlusion Master, Realskinshader, and UnimeshrealismKit do not work in Poser Pro 2010. At least that is my experience

I'm also running Win 7 at 64bit.

Anyone else have the same problem?

Python Scripting changed in P7 and has carried over to the latest iterations of Poser.  At least with Realskinshader, any abbreviation for col. has to be converted to it's full name, column.

what error do you get ?

if the python version changed some things will likely break. If its a .pyc you need to contact the vendor for an update.

This is a great opportunity to stop using those scripts because once you've got them to work you'll find that they're pretty useless combined with with IDL and Gamma Correction.

Far better to bite the bullet and switch to bagginsbill's (free) VSS. With a couple of tweaks, this works beautifully in Poser 8 / PP2010.

The basic Realskin works as do some of Realism Kits.  You do need to open them in a text editor and do a search and replace.  The vendor used col for column in the code.  You need to replace "col" with the full word column.

Note, this is only for the uncompiled scripts.  The V4 Realism kit does not work as it is compiled.  I have had variable success with the LaRoo and Apollo realism kits.

Occlusion Master doesn't work but I'm beginning to wonder if it has to do with IDL.

I've sent several site mails to faceoff regarding updates.  The above response regarding col and column was the extent of the response.

As far as I can tell, he has no intentions of updating his products for use in P8 and above.

The presence of IDL will inactivate both material and light AO.  The only Poser version where you may consider material AO while IDL rendering is PP2010.

I use Pro 2010 but I didn't even bother to load Occlusion Master to it's runtime after it failed to work in P8.

Right click on the poser.exe and then select run as admin.  Then try your python scripts.

Let us know if that works :D

yeah that will work.  Poser Pro 2010 and Poser 8 I think, will not run correctly unless it's ran as an administrator.  I found that out the hard way during a workshop I was teaching last week.  Windows 7 is a pain this way because Poser isn't the only program that has this issue.  Roxio Media Suite does the same thing.  The features will only work correctly if it is ran as an Administrator.   But in all it's not a complete pain for home users, as for those who have to deal with this in a professional environment, my guess would be that they are probably fed up with it.

I think we are misleading the OP on administrative privileges vs script code.  Until P7, the script for those aforementioned programs worked and worked very well.  After P7, the code was slightly modified, enough to cause the programs to fail.

Now, PP2010 with IDL rendering would not require such programs because it response to scene lighting differently.  In addition, using Bagginsbill VSSPro PR3's skin shader templates is far more superior and much more versatile.

**pjanak, can you tell me specifically what error you are getting when running these scripts on Poser Pro 2010?
