Subject: animating Monsoon's fire

fleshoff ( ) posted Wed, 30 March 2011 at 9:30 PM · edited Fri, 27 December 2024 at 7:51 AM

I have Monsoons Fire and trying to animate a meteor. He states in his read me that:

"All the materials that are procedural are totally animatable using the
velocity of material origin."

I tied messing with this setting but still don't see it animating...can anyone give me some pointers on how to do this?

You won't see it animating until the renders are complete.

In the material editor, go to effects, check velocity of material origin, put in some values and then make yourself an animation timeline and start rendering. When finished you should see the fire material flicker or move like glowing coals.....

do I just put it on the Z? And do the values have to change on the timeline or do I set it once? I thought I already did this and didn't get any animations. You state "All the materials that are procedural are totally animatable"...maybe the material I'm toying with isn't proceedural? I really don't know how to tell... I'm trying with the Meteor1.vob

BTW it looks awesome so far just need to get it to animate.

P.S. I'm a total newb if you couldn't already tell

That is not a procedural material. It's an alpha plane object. You cannot animate it.

The things that can be animated are the flame, smoke and lava materials.

Newb's ok. It's the only place to start from lol.....

Thanks, I thought I was just being dumb. Any advice on how one might go about creating an animated meteor with your tools?

I'm afraid I can't help you as I don't do any animating......but I'm sure there's someone here who does.

Actually very few animators here. Strange since Vue is so good at it. I'm just going to try to create my own animated planes, just need some kind of tutorial on how to do it.

Thanks, already asked Geekatplay with no response and have gone through all thier tutorials.

I ended up doing it with a spinning rock with animated lava material grouped to an animated alpha plane I made of a comet trail, flame and sparks and grouped that with several animated lights.

Fairly complex object but looks and moves pretty sweet.
