Subject: Tweaking Final Model

Hi,

I'm getting ready to put a model (or set of models) up for sale, and I just wondered if this was alright as it is or if I should put a junction on the end of the large pipe going into the floor (it would be just a copy of where it goes into the wall, if I did add it)

What do you think, with or without?

Make it an optional item...if you make it for DAZ or Poser[where you'll have the larger market] as well as Bryce, it can be invisible if not needed I think.. ...Looking really good tho.. ...

That reminds me of a scene from a movie I saw recently called Pandorum.

Pandorum is awesome! I loved the twist at the end... but the back story horrified me!

Bobby,

You really think that's necessary?

It's a fairly small difference....  If you think it necessary I could offer both versions... I just wasn't sure that the one going through the floor looked quite right.

pakled,

Those textures are really quite easy to make, mind you thinking back it has taken quite a few years to understand how Wings3d UV Maps things, and how PhotoShop works, but to be truthful I've found that the major thing that makes textures look right is to start with a photograph of a real texture... or a few photo textures, but I've found that if you start with reality, you can then add layers of... well whatever you want really, scratches, dirt, rust, any kind of damage.

I once used layers of wood, moss and even stone - up to 25 layers to make the wet wood of a water wheel on a mill.

Steve Jax,

Really?  How nice of you to say so.  Thanks very much.

So... what do you all think of this now?

As you can see, not a great difference - better than the other one?  Or not?

Or should I offer both as Bobby suggests?

I'm not sure how to do invisibility though, I hardly use Daz or Poser you see.

Fran...the reason I mentioned DAZ and Poser is they are likely the largest market group here and if you do wind up making a set....they look awesome btw, the Poser/DAZ bunch would be your best market. That being said you'd have to do it up in a runtime which is confusing to a non Poser/DAZ user but fortunately I recall approving a runtime kit in freestuff recently which is a blank directory structure that you can just drop the geometries and textures in the correct dirs, name it and zip it up and you have a Poser friendly MP package. The pipe thing was just a suggestion as you seemed like you may have wanted to do that....looks more than fine as it is.

Bobby,

Oh thanks very much for that indeed, that will help me no end.

I had already intended to aim at the Daz/Poser market and I did realise I would need to create a Runtime for it - I think that subconsciously that may be one reason for continually tweaking things - a sort of combination of getting things as good as I can and also putting off the evil day when I have to confront the necessity of making a Runtime.

I can open and import, light, position, texture (assigning them where Poser can't find them or else adding shine, reflection, bump etc) and Daz ditto, but the Runtime looms like a bl**dy high brick wall.

I am at the moment just tidying up the Wings File prior to zipping all of it up as .obj and all the textures, the Runtime zip is the next job.

Attached Link: runtime download

This is what he says on the Details page and the link takes you there Fran.. ...

*This is to aid you in creating a runtime for redistribution in free items and commercial packs. *
As the zip is just folders, you may have trouble unzipping using winzip (the extract function may not be available.) You can extract by right clicking on the zip folder and open with windows explorer then copy paste the folder to your location (used in win7)
Create your own folders within the runtime (eg within the pose or props folders) be sure to delete any folders that are not needed and zip the :runtime: folder and not from a higher heirarchy.

Um.....

Yes I found that runtime folder thingie, and the other two, (one of them is not working by the way)  The one you mention, Lully, and Brianna's both download okay, the other one does not.

However.... now that I have both of those, I still have no idea what to do with them.

I look at the list of stuff in there and I have no idea how that applies to the model I want to sell.....

Frankly, I'm baffled.

Maybe find a Poser member to give you a hand putting it together. It'll be a learning experience but worth it for the marketing potential. I think you would just put your meshes in Geometries and textures in Textures and your readMe in the readme, then I think create a folder with the name of the object/object group and move the Runtime into that...zip it up and I think that should do it as you aren't creating Poses or Characters. Good luck...that's how I'd do it.. ...

Bobby,

Yes, sound like a good idea.  I'm just not sure whether to ask in the Poser forum and the DazStudio forum or in the....there's a marketing forum isn't there?

I see that there's a MarketPlace Showcase forum - that doesn't sound quite right.

Developers... I think that's programming...

Wait a minute, there's a Beta Testing forum...

Should I maybe just ask in there?

I've found some help with Runtimes and such like heirarchies, over in the Commons at Daz.

And EnglishBob is going to Beta Test the object in Poser4,6 &7 and Vue6.

Now I just need a Bryce Tester - I've tested it as much as I can myself, now I need to know if it works on a strange PC - i.e. not mine.

Great, thanks Bobby.

What version of Bryce will that be?

I've sent you an invitation to my Huddle account - with a link to the file.

Off to bed now, talk to you again tomorrow.
