Subject: Aargh... she blewed up real good!!!

If anyone can help me with this, I'd be very, very grateful. I am using Poser 4.0.3 on a Dell Dimension Pentium II running Win2k, 512 meg of RAM, Poser is pretty much the only thing on a 13-gig hard drive. Today I bought Victoria 2 and Steffy's Asia, and eagerly loaded them up. To my great dismay, disaster happens. After I apply the Asia head and breast morphs to Vickie 2 but before I put the textures on, I go to set the body sliders per Steffy's instructions. As soon as I change one setting (to increase the Barbarian slider to .900) the whole figure blows up into a huge mess of inchoate polys that fills the entire scene. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember this being a problem with the first release of Poser 4 (where figures would get distorted and spaghetti-stretched in weird ways. I lost a few efforts to that bug.) I thought the 4.0.3 updater fixed all that? Could it be that my system is underpowered? I wouldn't have thought so, but I don't know what to make of this. Help! PS- Tried applying the Asia morphs to Vickie regular (not Vickie 2) and once again, she blew up as soon as I started messing with the body proportions. And it's not the gargantuan file sizes of the Asia textures... I hadn't even loaded them. Thanks for any help that anyone can give... -nemo

Can you render of pic of the mess? I wonder if it's vertex reordering..

Nothing wrong with your system or win2k the mess is all posers.

Thanks for the offer of help, Jeff... I really appreciate it. I have put a page up at my site with four screen caps of the problem. It's at http://rain.prohosting.com/bird23/asia.htm . I was wondering... do you think it might have to do with missing a Vicki 1 updater? I just bought Vicki 2, and I can't remember if I applied any of the patches that were released for earlier Vicki to my Vicki 1.

Wow! :-o It does look like the verts are reordered to me. That would cause the mesh to "explode" when the MTs were applied. I'll check out the Asia figure and see if I can find anything odd.

I think I figured out what happened. You may have set the Super Heroine FB morph to "300" instead of "0.300". Or was that the Barbarian FB morph to "900" instead of "0.900"? -Jeff

<> I figured it out about five minutes ago, too. Thanks for your help, Jeff... sorry to have bothered you for nothing. I went ahead and applied the latest Victoria update just to be safe, but it looks like this was what QA calls an "id10t" error.... -nemo

Hehe ;-)

Also called a NBK (nut behind the keyboard) or IUI (insufficient user intelligence)errors. I'm an expert on both of them :)

Oh, yeah... it was a definite IUI error... :-) -nemo (now happily playing with the gorgeous Asia. I recommend her highly!! Just the textures alone are worth the price.)

Wow! Glack! Er... what caused that to happen? I just want to make sure I don't ever do it... ;]

Ironbear - I set one of the morph dials to 300 percent, instead of .300. So that's what 300% of a superheroine looks like... ;-) Basic user error, nothing wrong with either Poser or the figure. -nemo

Argh. ok.... Hrmm, but, yknow... if you do that on purpose, then export as obj, take it into RayDream Studio and apply twist, bend and shatter deformers, and then take it into bryce and apply one of Lestat's black mettalic alien mat's... You could render something not even the momma alien from the second flik could love. ;] This has truly warped possibilities... grin sorry I'm really not making light of the mishap. I'm just a truly warped artist. ;]
