ice-boy ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2011 at 7:54 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 2:49 PM

i am doing a lot of conforming clothes. so fo this i need to have accurate groups from the body parts. since i am modeling with blender i am also creating the groups in blender. but sometiems it takes a long time.

so i am wondering if i should buy the Autogroup editor? is it good?

I think so, it saves me a lot of time. Just don't expect it to do ALL the work. You still need to do some final tweaking in your prefered 3D modeling app (Blender in your case). Whatever you do, don't use the result directly.

If you want to use the result directly you may want to look at OBJ2CR2.

Obj2cr2 is the way to go.

I have Autogroup editor and it is really good.  It's fast and most of the time the results are good and require very little manual adjustment.

D'oh! Why do things that happen to stupid people keep happening to me?

AGE works quite well, but nothing that you could do yourself in a modeling program.

Autogroup when paired with quick conform are so good that you feel a little dirty, like you're doing something wrong.  I used obj->cr2 for years, I own a lot of philc scripts, but in this case I think you're better off with Autogroup and Quick Conform.

Seems like a lot of this is all about personal preference and workflow... haven't seen hard evidence yet that one solution is better than the other, in any thread discussing these approaches.

Well, it comes down to this

Obj->Cr2 = Dresses, bodysuits (pants, shirts, shorts), no hands, maybe feet (you're limited by dress and bodysuit templates)

Autogroup and Quick Conform = ANYTHING (gloves, shoes, capes, coats, horses, dragons, jellyfish)

In terms of my personal preference, being able to do two things is less usefull than being able to do an infinite number of things.

I have several utitlies that do almost the same job. Some are straight forward like PhilC Obj2Cr2, but that does work with all figures and you do have to use Autogroup Editor. I also manaully make the groups in the modeling programs I use and sometimes tweak the ones that are created by above mentioned.
