I think the wiki might be gone. There doesn't seem to be a link to it. I posted about this in the bug thread but there hasn't been any responce about it yet from rendo. May have to wait for Stacy to get back in august.

Thanks for replying, I'm in no rush, I just was reading a forum thread over at RDNA which redirected me to the wiki here and I couldn't find it.
Hopefully it's a blip and Stacey can sort it when she's back.

I didn't get any notification the wiki pages were going. Is this just a database glitch or have they been taken out? I actually contributed as well - would have been nice to been notified...

Of course we want it back - As more as lots of time and work went into this knowledge base. I very much hope that only the link is gone or that, at least, there's a backup available because what people collected there can by sure be called intellectual property!

Since Monday has come and gone and the link is not back on the site map, I assume the decision is not good?
Or maybe it's just decided that the Wiki will be an "Easter Egg" for those who stumble upon it? Well, at least someone recently changed the Renderosity logo up top to be a link to the main page.. :>

When you say not returning... you mean the link, or the actual item itself?
As it stands right now, it seems about as "gone" as deleted marketplace items, where those who know the URL can still access the contents and read them.
Maybe I'm just not understanding company decisions. shrug

If it's not being too nosy can we ask why the wikki is being done away with? Perhaps a new and better alternative is coming?

Well, we won't know - Rendo isn't talking, is it? No reasons given why the wiki is gone. What's going next?

Chat isn't going Day cause we need to have our dance parties lol:)
We are cleaning up some areas on the site that do not get much if any use and it appeared the wiki really wasn't being added to or utilized much at all over the past 6 months or so. There are only 2 or 3 pages that really got any focus at all with adding/editing/linking, other than that nothing has really been touched all year. It just didn't achieve the desired results that was our intended goal with bringing on the wiki.
Sometimes when a site gets too much on it, it becomes a little overwhelming for folks and if there are areas that aren't really being utilized much or producing the desired effect then those are the places we were focusing on.
You can still access it via the link Kristi gave and if anyone wants to gather the information off of it to use I would suggest doing that as we will be taking it completely down on August 23rd
Thanks
Stacey
I think that it is a bit silly to think that the wiki would become immensely popular within a mere 6 month time frame.
Maybe someone should check to see just how popular Wikipedia or Facebook were after six months. Maybe, just maybe, it took them longer to get to a point where they were widely known and used?
Just a thought.

It's been around longer than 6 months I was just saying the past 6 months hardly anything was done with it at all, not that it had only been around 6 months. The wiki has been around about a year and a half I'd say
Stacey, do you know what kind of basic programming was used to create the Wiki? Did you use a kind of source that is accessable to the public?
Yes, it is possible to collect all the data using a site-ripper or such. But whatever you collect this way is good for offline reading only (I use these rippers sometimes to store tutorials or such to my harddrive for later use) - but it is not editible anymore to not touch any copyright. It is not possible for me to host the Wiki but nevertheless I would like to keep it - and keep it editible. Maybe one of the programmers can give us a hint on what to do to at least save the Wiki and, maybe some day, restore it elsewhere.

Leo/Digital-Lion just came and told me that the export-function of the Wiki is not working while the easiest way to save and restore it would be to export it as XML and restore it with any Wiki-tool available on the net.

the wiki software is freely available.
I wonder if many people were viewing it because once articles are created there may not be much reason to edit them, so edit activity is not a good indicator if the main articles exist.
As I understand it you need the server source to move the wiki rather than the pages you see in order to maintain the edit history and all the links.
You almost understood right - and thanks for answering me, Mark. What we need is the content and the server source. The edit history is (hopefully) less important but the links are of course. We are lucky, we still have time. I will try to catch LesBentley and ask him for more clarification as my english is pretty limited when it comes to such technical things.

Yes it will be driven by a database. If you make a copy of the code of the page easily. You see it all when you edit the page. Also download the images. You could restore the page in a MediaWiki, possibly one running on your own server by uploading the images and then paste the code. Edit history will be gone, but there is worse.
Note that you to run MediaWiki you need to have PHP support (5.3.2 or up) and MySQL 4 or later. Most serious hosting programs will provide that. The Wiki code can be downloaded form www.mediawiki.org. Full install info there.
Alternative would be to carry the page to a wider platform (Wikipedia) and make a page there like the Victoria figure has, for example.
Thanks Bagoas!
Now we only have to find someone who is able and, most of all, has time for it. Digital-Lion is overwhelmed with other work at the moment and of course still with therapy after the stroke (not to talk about that he should take it easier now and not work all too much). Anyone?!

Might be worth asking Lyrra if the content could to be ported to the PoserContent wiki.No problems moving my stuff either - even tho there really isn't much, tbh...

Quote - I am busy carrying the pages to Wikipedia. Technically it should not be a problem to port it, but since it is all immediately visible to the whole world I would like you people's consent before pushing on and publish the images etc. and pull the page form the sandbox.
B.
Anything I've posted there, can be moved. I don't think you will have any issue with people saying "no" as a Wiki is a great place to have relavent information all in one place that is easily updated by anyone so that it remains current.
I'll link this to my thread in the Poser forum so that people can see it.
I mainly stuck with bookmarks and tweaking other pages to provide more information. So I can't give you a breakdown of my contribution there.
"It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi
The content belongs to Rendo, not us authors. Move it all.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Fine, all thank you for your confidence.
In the mean while I did some further study on Wikipedia and it's policies, and I think the page as it was copied from the Redo Wiki would not be up for long. It does not confom to the 'encyclopedia' style they are aiming at and it would be in danger of being removed. Their words: we do not provide free hosting.
I already received complaints about the user name I had chosen: AntoniaPolygon, which too much was like the 'product' on my test upload. Too bad.
Looking at the page content, we have:
What we do not have documented:
in short: we miss those things one would expect to see in an 'encyclopedia' reference article about Antonia. If we want it to stay, it must be developed. It is not a big thing. I can make a simple start lemma in the fashion that Wikipedia wants, so it can then Wikipedia style be extended by whoever is willing to do so.
That sounds fine, bagoas, maybe odf can add some words now or later about why Antonia was developed. Regarding the user name: How about something like Antonia Developer Group or such? I guess that a native speaker has a better wording but I think you get the idea - something that sounds like a "company" but non-profit orientaded.

It is less direct. ODF gave an explanation 'why' he started the developement in the first post of the megathread.
Note an encycopedia is about verifyable facts. A person's own statement is not verifyable, but the reference to the statement is.
I admit it is a learning process.
Also a name like 'antonia developement group' appears out of bounds. To save trouble I will use an name that is not related. Note that the originator has no special rights over the article and that anyone can edit.
Bagoas, you and Laurie (Pose2Lux wiki) are champs! Thanks for all your hard work on this...

Those who want to take a look (and add if they like) at the WIP are welcome at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BagoasOfPersia/Antonia
There's a few issues, among which:
1 - I would like to have info on who added some key features: I remember ODF writing that the joint parameters were developed by someone else.Who was it?
2 - Need to work on the way the references like the book of Jason Osipa are shown.
3 - There is a 4 day deadlock on uploading images to Wikipedia. I have to wait until then to bring up specific illustrating images like the UVmaps and the actors.
4 - need to talk about the low res and high res versions.
This looks very good, bagoas - and now I understand why we do not need a nickname like ADG (Antonia Developers Gorup). I am reading a lot in Wikipedia as I already liked to read in enceclopedias when I was a child. But I did not knew how it worked and didn't dare to edit something although I already found some errors within the german Wikipedia site. As said: Too much respect.
About the joint parameters: I think it was Phantom3D who worked on them (please don't kick me if I am wrong). He changed his username on Renderosity to Diogenes.

Antonia also has an entry at the PoserContentWiki.com site. It's almost identical to her RendoWiki entry except for a few items that wouldn't format in the same way as Rendo's Wiki.
oh heck, I unsubbed to this thread, came back and found this :(
I don't use rrwiki all that often and use it on a need to know info basis or if redirected from somewhere to it (as other websites do utilise this by referring) ok if there hasn't been much activity on the site in relation to amendments that doesn't mean it doesn't get viewed or are you saying the viewing figures are rubbish too? Also a year and half isn't that long for you to chuck in the towel, but if the decision is made it's made. I am now wondering if noone had noticed would the information be removed and deleted without saying anything at all, no notice or anything?
Thanks bagoas for doing what you are doing, I would imagine it will probably take quite an effort to get all the info across, I hope they don't take the site down before it's all transferred, (can there not be an extention to the info so that it's not so much of a panic rush)
Makes you wonder what's next :(
