Oh, thank god it's the Advent Children version. I was about to show you a photo of a wig made for fun to mimic FF7's Sephiroth with the insanely raised bangs so you could see how ridiculous it looks in anything mildly realistic LOL!
In any case, he has long flowy hair in a non-complex style. I'd think dynamic hair would be best for it, specially because making conforming hair that goes past the waistline have any decent movement is a nightmare...

snickers Advent Children is the only version of Sephiroth that I'm familiar with (not really a FF fan, but my brother gave me the Advent Children dvd, which I enjoy (music is fantastic)) But I think I know which image you're talking about; insanely raised bangs and a huge part between the bangs which really looks like he is going bald.
I don't know much about how to make hair, but I do know what I find easiest to work with. You're right, the dynamic hair does seem heaps easier to work with.
I was thinking perhaps the dynamic cloth hair would be the way to go, because I've found I've more luck with making them cooperate with the wind-blown effect, but I don't know how difficult the dynamic cloth's are to design; easy to use might equate to a b**ch to make.
Never seen him from the original Final Fantasy 7 game? I can't find screencaps of his blocky ancient 3d in the game, but ready to laugh at the character art?

Dynamic cloth hair is... dynamic cloth where the hair should be. Basically they're carefully arranged strips of poligon surfaces, turned dynamic in the Cloth Room. You'd have to know how to make 3d meshes if you want to make that, I don't know if you do.

I don't know how to make any sort of hair, dynamic or otherwise. Hence the reason for this thread :) But I'm confused: dynamic hair isn't the same as dynamic cloth hair?
Dynamic hair is what you'd find in the Hair Room in Poser. Grow strand based hair, style, run simulations(similar to a cloth sim), etc.
Dynamic cloth hair has been described as above. Strips of hair textured polys that you can run a cloth sim and get it to drape or blow in wind.

To explain the above further, you can do dynamic hair entirely in Poser, maybe requiring just a scalp cap that you can get for free here in Rosity's Freebies. Poser makes those strands for you, you style them, etc. The calculation process is most likely slower (I'm just starting to dare to play with dynamics in Poser, so I don't know for sure), but it definitely requires less knowledge to make - at least to make an uncomplex hairstyle such as Advent Children's Sephiroth.
To make dynamic cloth hair, you'd need to know how to work in a 3d modeller (Blender, 3dsMax, Maya, Cinema4d, Hexagon, anything like them), how to make a detailed yet not huge mesh, how to place things correctly and "stitch" them to scalp so they wouldn't just fall off, to UV Map it nicely so it would work well with textures, and THEN bring it to Poser Cloth Room and set the options to have a nice simulation.
I can't say which process is worse or more troublesome - never tried styling hair and it would probably waste a lot of time in test simulations, and I love working with mesh so I'd probably go for the dynamic cloth hair - but dynamic cloth hair definitely requires a much larger amount of knowledge and reseach from you, if you don't previously know how to make a mesh.

Yes, I know.... but that particular product would have to be tweaked a lot to look quite like Sephiroth's.

you can buy a utility here by kaposa who has a thing called total hair control and using that you can modify your hair to look like that one I think. (possibly)
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Thanks, Ohki that in depth explanation made much more sense to me. I understood that the dynamic cloth hair required the strips of polygons to make up the hair, compared to the creating the strands in Poser, but little more than that didn't quite sink in.
From your description, dynamic cloth hair is not something that I will be attempting any time soon- it requires a lot more fiddling around than making the hair in Poser. The fact I haven't got a program like Hexagon quite yet is also a consideration.
@BionicRooster - thanks for the link. It was actually Joe's videos on youtube with that hair that got me thinking of how to make the render I'm working on better, with the wind force tool. That was a hidden little gem I wasn't aware of Poser possessing (I always wondered how people's renders had such a realistic wind-blown effect)
But this leads me to another question: Joe's videos are using dynamic cloth hair with the wind-force option. Will dynamic hair behave the same way with fly-away hair when the wind-force is calculated?
Looking for the skull caps mentioned that I need to try and make this hair myself, the only link I could find that wasn't V3M3, was this one: Royalty Free Skull Caps

That's the one that I know of. If it doesn't have one for M4/V4 (I'm guessing it does), you can translate and resize for a loose fit, then use magnets for a tight fit. In any case, the scalp is the object you'll turn into hair, Poser will start growing hair from it. Remember to add V4/M4 as a collider for the simulation or the hair will just go into their shoulders and such.

I don't know if this is the correct part of the forums to post this, or even if its the 'done thing' but I thought it would be worth a shot.I'm looking for someone who is willing to take on a commission of making a hair pack to suit the V4/M4 models, based off the Final Fantasy character Sephiroth. I have looked on Renderosity, DAZ3D and RDNA for a suitable hair product, but haven't had any luck.
I've seen plenty of long-hair-parted-in-the-middle styles, but none of them are what I'm looking for. Sephiroth's hair while parted in the middle is distinctive with the triangular peaks at the part.
I don't have the faintest idea how to make hair in Poser, which is why I'm throwing this out to the community and see if there are any takers who would be willing to help out. I'm more than willing to pay however takes up my request.
Whether you can help by accepting the commission, or even give me some links to some good online tutorials of how to make the hair myself, I would be grateful. I would like to learn how to make hair myself, but have struck out finding some good in-depth tuts.
