For anyone who does not know, we have a game here not seen in a while, or if so, I slept through it. DITI means Do It To It, a photo for you to download and play wiht anyway you want.   You can be serious and edit to a better photo...have fun if you want and go for it with colors, filters, creative fun.

(Be sure to click for the larger view and download the larger one to work with.)

This is one I shot in May and have not done a thing with it...straight from camera with a very minor sharpening since I do not sharpen in camera.

Go for it and have some fun in this thread!                      TomDart (you cal call me tom)

What a fantastic idea Tom and great work everyone. I love the sepia PJ, and myrrhluz's great effort reminds me how hot the old trains were without aircon! Being a car fan, I had to add something for you mate! 4 train wheels and a tricked out suspension and this old hippy was ready to roll!

PJ, at the far end of the tracks is a switch...that explains it maybe.  : )

Shucks, in New Orleans you can buy an entire busty chest for parade wear!  I believe pasties will satisfy the legal eagles.

PJ, that would be a good idea.  The monthly challenge has been doing well and some member are here who likely do not know about DITI. A DITI can do well and be fun for those who like to do that kind of stuff. As I recall, the first responder with a modified image gets to start the next one after a couple of weeks(?). Some sort of simple time limit could be set.  I would hope to inteject a little more interest in the forum.

Have fun today.    I think I will do a diti on my photo.          Tom.

MrsLubner ( ) posted Thu, 28 July 2011 at 11:54 AM

Now that you mention it, I think you're right about the next one.  I think they were changed each Monday but we can change that. since you started this one, why don't you tell me what you think is a good length of time? Each week? Every two weeks? Once a month?

Since we don't know what sort of response there will be, a week sounds ok to  start.  This one could run all next week then change on Monday, August 8 or something like that. Not being a Mod, I might not be up to major decisons.

I suggest running a week for a normal diti and let this one have the extra days to maybe attract a few more folks.

What is nice about this, it is not requiring great skill to play with the photo...sure, some folks might want to do a real winnner but like mine here, some of us will play and quick and silly is fine.

Mine coming up is silly and the selections are real quickies, not refined.  That is ok in a diti.

MrsLubner ( ) posted Thu, 28 July 2011 at 12:37 PM

Tom, I'm a mod and I can tell you, doesn't take anything any other member around here doesn't have to do the job except an idea and a team. Everything is done as a team and so, I'll let you know, that I totally agree that leaving this and changing it Aug 8 was my thought too. And we'll see after that if we can start turning these around each week for as long as interest stays.

On my next gallery post, I'll try to remember to plug this game. Hard to comitt to because it's generally about 5:30 a.m. when I post and I haven't even had any coffee that early. LOL

I like selective color with this one...so much goiing on in textkure makes it very interesting and the color works well.

MrsLubner ( ) posted Thu, 28 July 2011 at 11:32 PM

I have to agree about the color. This has a gritty feel to it and is very "real." Love the postwork, gonzojr.

Cool images Tara and blinkings!  My invasion is from the land of cats. (Giant cats) I turned the image around because I forgot to do so to the image of Tella (chewing on the stone) before I selected her and turning the background around was easier.

Directing traffic, indeed...when the giant cats meet the alien teddies.  I think the cats can take them.   For our sakes I do hope so.  The giant beetles are gone, they are now in the Balkans on holiday.

I think PJ has a good idea...to spread the word about DITI.  Anyone can have fun with it and does not need to be a master of post work, 2d or 3d design.   Posts so far are really fun and neat work.  We all think so differently and that adds a lot to the appeal.

This was total guess thing...I took 4 of the images here and converted to a raw format, then combined in Photoshop™® as a series of photos for an HDR.  This is the result.

Totally unexpected, the HDR merge discriminated against cats and mechanical beasites. And, it kept a parade man but the man waiting for a ride is gone and only a cat ghost remains in the foreground.  How two Hippie VW vans got in there I don't know.

Anyway, there you go.      Tom.

Humm...maybe I should market the technique as "Dali Meets Warhol Effect" : )

dashboard_jehovah ( ) posted Sun, 31 July 2011 at 5:23 PM

The guy waiting for a ride is in there...just barely visible are his leg and shirt.

Crazy image...but I do like it! LOL

**Granted, this was change for change sake but it was fun.**
  1. Added a piece of track in the middle...would derail any train the way it is:)

  2. Added our local "Sounder" passenger train on the left track.

  3. Flipped the Sounder, shrunk it and added it to the track on the right.

  4. Added a wall painting from Oregon under the bridge.

  5. Desaturated the sky.

  6. Cleaned the wall on the elevated roadway.

  7. Added a Caravaggio filter and then a canvas texturizer filter to the whole thing.

So, there you have it:-)))

Haven't been on RR in months, great to be on one of the most exciting forums here.

Unlike the wonderfully creative & manipulated versions here, I just made a simple "study," of contrast, texture, etc---hope it's interesting. Wonderful playful variations here. Have a great week, all!
