Ok, I finally got my hands on a wacom tablet... I am so excited!! This is awsome! Just wanted to show what I have been up to between working :) If ya don't have one.. go get it!! Really!

Normally, I wouldnt have jumped to buy one, but it was lying around at work and it magically found its way attached to my machine. :) They are really cool. The only problem ive found is that it doesnt handle the two monitor hookup too well... as in, one half of the tablet is one screen, the other half is the other screen. Then you just have to disengage the 2nd monitor, but.... most people dont use two monitors. :)

Oh that is great... :) Image and the fact that you have a Wacom.. Can't wait to see what else you come up with.. :) Anyone who is serious about digital art should invest in one if they can... I hear the Graphire is really good. Using a mouse (no offence meant) is like trying to compete in a formula one race driving a tractor... Hey Styxx did you do the open and shut everything by accident trick..?? LOL I did when I got mine.. Took multi tasking to a new realm.. ROFL

ArchAngelofHell a wacom is a graphics tablet. www.wacom.com You use a cordless stylus (pen) on a pressure sensitive tablet. What this means is you can go from a wisp of a line to something like a tree trunk in the same movement... With a mouse you are stuck with a set line thickness.. You choose your brush size and any line you draw will remain that size.. In effect you have the sort of control you would have if you were drawing by hand in traditional media. There are of course other features and it would be best to visit the site as they can explain these much better than I can.. You can use a mouse with the wacom.. Mine comes with a cordless mouse that I never use.. But my family do.

mouse is still better for that :

I use mine in Poser all the time, have to--mouse hurts like hell (carpal). It works okay after you get used to it. True bummer about the dual montior setup tho. I was just about to go to dual monitors. I wonder if Wacom has (or will) update its drivers to support them.

Which OS is having the dual monitor problem, and are you using the OS dual monitor feature of MacOS, Windows 98 or Win2k, or a card specific dual monitor feature (Geforce MX TwinView, Dual Radeon, Matrox G400, etc).

Thanks all! Ming, I used PhotoShop 5.5 for the post work. It works very nicely with the wacom. Helen, I am still getting used to the pen. I keep hitting those little buttons as I paint! lol

Got also one and wouldn't give it away anymore. But instead of the corless mouse of the package (which isn't really good), i use a Logitech Mouseman. It's the best mouse i ever had, because the big bowle in it let's you place much more accurate (hehe had to do something like geometry). Styxx, i'm really interested how you achieved the seamless texture at the figures side. Did you used DeepPaint or a similar application ? SHARKEY

That's odd that it's not working for both monitors for you Amp-3. I'm using mine with my two monitors and it works fine. I only use it on the main monitor but it doesn't bleed over to the other one. Weird. Marque

actually, sharkey, the base texture is my Rhiannon Winter texture.....it's pretty much seamless :) i brought the rendered figure into photoshop as a tiff, then i played with hue/saturation, and then did all the cool stripes and hair. i don't much use deep paint...

Thanks Styxx, i'm not such good as you in painting images, because the base problem is allways not to ruin the 3D-effect when painting on a render. Your's look really well done.

Finally wakes up Hey, :) Anywho, it does work with two screens... as a mouse, and as a touch-up tool. Oh you can use it fine, but the The only real problem with two screens is that your strokes have to be more minute/smaller, do to your horizontal tablet workspace cut in half. i can do it both ways, with one monitor or two, but if im working really intently on a project that i dont want to screw up (instead of just toying around, ill go to one screen. As for two monitors, its well worth it. I do web development, so i have Photoshop and my code editor on one screen, and IE on the other. VERY effective and efficient. In the same way, I have PS6 on one screen, P4 on the other. Its great!! To answer questions, Im using it on Win2k, but the key is in the card: yoou have to have one with a dual monitor output plugs in the back. Write back with any more questions.

I have two cards in my win2k system, one AGP and one PCI. You don't have to have the card with dual monitor plugs. Marque

I just checked out their site. Would the Graphire 2 be enough of a tablet for the kind of post work a serious amateur would be doing?

I got one but I hate useing it, Im so used to the mouse that useing a pen messes me up.

If you are in the NYC area, J&R Computer World has refurbished Wacom Graphire USB units for $59.95. I just got my replacement stylus and am I loving it!!! Playing with some line art coloring tutorials and some of my 2D stuff and Oh yeah! - Tablet with stylus is the way to go!

You mean there were people here doing art 'without' a Wacom tablet! :) Seriously, tho, Wacom products are awesome and if you can afford it, no digital artist should be without one.
