Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 10 10:00 pm)
Quote - And when they are released, are very expensive so I hear. Daz has a proprietary dynamic cloth format and Poser does not.

Very, very expensive. I checked with Daz a while back on getting the software so I could make Daz Studio compatible clothing. They refered me to Opti-Tex and boy did I get sticker shock when I looked over the software. Very expensive and prohibitive even for the most basic program. Unless you are able to invest several thousand dollars, which most vendors are not, the software is out of the question. I am not that impressed anyway with the Daz Studio compatible dynamic clothing being offered. Pappy
Biting my tongue.
Why not for Poser? We'd love to see what you're making and have a play.
I know you want to offer the Daz community the same opportunity as Poser's: I tried the same thing with shaders, which is why i purchased DS3Adv, for shader mixer. DS3Adv kept crashing on me when i tried to work on those shaders... just closed without warning. I finally decided it wasn't going to work and gave up.

Here's the thing; I make items for clients (and for the market) full time. One of my clients only likes to use DAZ. So, my most recent task was to make a dress, which I though would work best as dynamic. I asked "Does daz have a cloth system (cause I don't like to use daz at all, but have made everything else compatible)?" He says "Yes", so I'm thinking, ok no problem. Usually it's just a matter of making sure all the morph data is inside the object or figure, instead of pmd's...etc...
Little did I know I would run imto an issue like this. The dress will not work well as a conforming piece unless I add a ton of morphs... or handles..... and still will never drape or adjust... I bit off more than I could chew I guess. Who would think a small dress would be so much trouble!!
Thanks for all the info. So, all in all, Making Dynamic Clothing FOR Daz.......... a big no go.
'Fraid so, phionix, unless you have a few thousand to play with.
Maybe it's just me, but dynamic cloth for Daz seems a bit limited, design-wise. Wonder if 1. that's true and 2. if the price of the software might have something to do with it.

*cry
I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and remake this piece, almost from the ground up. Morphs, handles, more morphs, cut it apart, rig, blah......................... Double the work, half the fun!
...and nowhere as nice a result as with dynamic.
My heart goes out to you, phionix.

This is strange. I can't figure out how a person who uses Daz would be commissioning custom items to be made. Why not just buy Poser?

You can use a dynamic cloth in Poser to DAZ

angry, give it some love!
I don't know much about making morphs so I may be way off base, but I see that poser has a export morph ( or something similar I'm at work or i'd check) can use the clothroom and drape the clothes and then use that to make a better looking morph for a conforming version of the same clothes?

I use Poser 13 and win 10
icprncss2: Physical item
NanetteTredoux: He has Poser but prefers Daz's interface for posing.
TheOwl: If he was to do that, he'd be in poser already and not need to go to daz at all. This would avoid me having to twice the work... I wish!
RedPhantom: Once I cut up the item to be conforming, if I go to the cloth room, pieces would fall apart. I don't know how to do hybrid clothing, I never really botherd to look it up..... But, I own Zbrush, so I can get some great results that way.
I'm sure I'll just have to suck it up and work on it for a few days making morphs and what not. I think it's my fault for not knowing more about the software I'm making an item for. So, I'll have to eat the cost for time in this scenario.
At least I know this limitation now and will think twice before saying "Yeah, I can do that, no problem".
Quote - In the case of your situation, phionix, it'd probably still be feasible to offer the dynamic-only version as a bonus, if any people end up using it in Poser. :>
You know it Daymond.... and you probably know you'll be getting your hands on it soon too. It's a dress for Rouge. I'm sure Jason will send it to you, lol! This is Kingroaw/Darkseal...............
Actually, I just sent him today a promo picture he had me do with the dynamic version. :)
It works quite well, from my experience. Granted, I've not really used too many dynamic clothing pieces yet, so I'm certainly not the face of experience with it.. :D You should come into the Renderosity chat sometime. BionicRooster knows some stuff with dynamics, and it's always fun to have another face in there. :)
Currently using Poser Pro 2012 (Display Units = feet)

Windows 10 Pro 64bit
Phionix, might I suggest you use the Poser dynamics to your advantage?
When I'm creating a conforming piece with lots of folds that should really be dynamic, I use Poser to get my folds and fit, THEN cut it into groups.
Take your object into Poser, use the dynamics to get your folds, etc. then export that to an OBJ and take it back into your modeler to complete it, group it and then through your rigging.
Glitterati3d... That's what I did, lol. But I still found some places that look bad, and I already cut it up. So, I'm going to have to open it in zbrush and make a "fix" morph. I was going to have to add a morph or 2 anyways, so no biggie. I just wish I could have made dynamic cloth in daz as easily as I made it in poser....*cry

Yeah, a lot of times, I use the smooth brush in my modeler to "clean up" some of the folds a bit. I do use Poser dynamics a lot to create morphs.
I can't help you with DS as I don't use it and don't have any plans to. Sorry.

Hi,
I'm trying to create (make from scratch) a Dynamic Clothing item for Daz. I have NO problem making it for poser.... but I have no clue how to go about doing it for daz. I have search high and low for a tutorial but can find NONE.
Please point the way to a tutorial to make an obj or poser item INTO a dynamic clothing item IN DAZ (not the opposite) or explain how to do it.... please!!!!!
I've posted this in the daz section too, but I see how much traffic goes there.... so I'm posting here as well...
