Subject: Native Motion Capture in next version...

InfoCentral ( ) posted Sun, 31 July 2011 at 10:02 AM · edited Sun, 08 December 2024 at 3:19 AM

Reallusion has announced their next version iClone 5 will have Motion Capture built into the program.  I hope the next version of Poser Pro will have the same...

Yes, that could be a great improvement, if you can use it for any figure. I guess it would be motion capture from a normal  video camera or web cam.

No, it's from a Kinect camera which is about $150.  I got mine from Costco for $139.

"Motion Capture built into the program.  I hope the next version of Poser Pro will have the same..."

Not likely IMHO
the next poser pro will likely be all about "rigging" improvement.

also is it really a "native "Iclone feaure if you have to spend $100+ USD on external third party hardware to use it???

At any rate SM cares not about poser animation or they would have at least improved the IK system or added
NONLINEAR MOTION MIXING
like Daz did.

They even expect you to supply your own computer too.  The nerve of some people!

If a program claims support for the Space Navigator, or Wacom tablet, you surely wouldn't expect it to come with one I hope.

I was under the impression it was separate ($99?) plug-in though.

Well, with kinietic I think there is a free application for motion capture and get bvh right now.

In another topic, I saw people suggesting the next Poser version should have an internal Marvellous Designer, fully functional inside Poser. Now a motion capturer?

You guys seriously expect Poser to have many entire softwares inside it, softwares many times worth a few thousand dollars, and continue at the price we usually pay for Poser?

adding Kinect support would not raise the price by much tho... the API's out there.. we'll have to see what comes...

Yeah, it plugs into your MotionBuilder software.  I don't need to tell you how much that software will set you back!

Who else still calls an app a program?

I don't mind available content, I simply prefer the option of making some things myself whenever I choose.  It's not clear to me that I wouldn't have to pay more to do that.

Its not nearly that expensive anymore and certainly not to produce Kinect motion capture.  You can purchase a standalone Kinect motion capture system complete with all the software for $395.  (Kinect camera purchase required)

I surely would NOT want to spend an extra 400 dollars for a next version of Poser for a feature I'd never use... Or even 100 for that matter. If softwares were made to do a huge amount of stuff not all users would ever have need for, we wouldn't buy software; Operational Systems would come bundled with everything (and have prices above that of a new car).

I don't know what your using to base your cost projections but I would say they are way off!

Blackhearted ( ) posted Mon, 01 August 2011 at 8:50 PM

what percentage of Poser users actually use the animation features?  (excluding those who have just dabbled for a few minutes out of boredom, or use it just for dynamic cloth sims).

im going to guess 10%, and thats probably guessing high.

if this upcoming version focuses on rigging improvements, pretty much everyone that uses Poser benefits - even those who use it for animation.

personally i think that the fact that a figure still cant raise their arms and not look like crap after a dozen versions of Poser is pretty #%@$ed up.  rigging should be the main priority for Poser - considering the program is pretty much all about figure 'posing'.

Apparently not enough to get IK working properly?  You might be surprised to know how often Poser is actually used for animation and by whom.  I am.

I've also long said that Poser is good for doing everything but what it's supposed to.

InfoCentral ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2011 at 10:43 AM

Poser has had bvh motion capture since I started way back.  So I would say that animation has been at the core of the software.  I don't know how many users use motion capture for animation but its there for the use.

wolf359 ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2011 at 11:57 AM

Yes but poser does not accept Live motion capture from an actor performing in front of a camera in real time
I believe that is the promise and the appeal of Kinect ,
a pretty cool device from all reports.

Hoping with the next release of Poser Pro it will be incorporated into it.  The lip sync was a huge improvement over manual input.  Lets hope this gets included.  If not SM will fall behind as other products move ahead.

moogal ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2011 at 9:39 PM

I have been thinking of stopping, but mainly because bad things did happen me also,  My income and and expenses are not proportional to the unity but I like the app publishing and the unity has matured over recent releases, is still expensive,  I don't like the global partnership of Microsoft Office so I prefer to work my home,  But as long as nothing, I think we were talking about motion capture

InfoCentral ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2011 at 11:21 PM

Must be some strong stuff...

lorddrezz ( ) posted Tue, 09 August 2011 at 1:51 PM

so has anyone tried any of the kinect motion capture stuff out there and brought the results into poser?
