Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:11 pm)
There's no inherent crashing problem with Poser 8. It's proved to be considerably less crash / freeze prone than, for example, Adobe Photoshop on my system.
PoserPro 2012 is neither more nor less stable than P8 (it's pretty much rock-solid save for the very occasional crash).
As ever, the advice is to make sure you have the latest service pack, latest graphic card drivers etc., make sure that 'external binary morphs' are disabled in preferences.
You've given no info about your system so further advice would be based on guesswork.

Sorry to ask but I've been 100% on this so far with quite a few people -
Have you installed the updates? The current software is SR 3.
If you have not, start there.
PP 2010 is extremely stable - I do not run P8 any longer so cannot say how it is.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
xil, your system is similar to mine. I've never understood how or why running Chrome or FireFox would interfere with Poser - I run both and neither has ever impacted on it.
Where is Poser installed? If it's in C:Program Files, that might be an issue. I have it, and most other software, installed onto a completely different drive. UAC may also cause problems, the solution is either to turn it off - if you're feeling brave - or search this forum for how to make Poser launch with full admin priviledges,

What firewall are you using? For the life of me I could not get Poser 8 to play well with ZoneAlarm, no matter how much I tweaked the settings. I switched to Eset Internet Security and that solved the problem.

I thank everyone for all the help... the only thing not tried is installing it to another drive, that is just tedious and will have to wait until I Have the free time.
I guess my main point is, I have other 3D software installed, I have MANY other applications installed, and none of them.... not one other... required me to play with my firewall (now poser8 runs as admin and has a hole for the application), or flash player (I extensively use adobe products, they update constantly). Or I cannot have a web browser use poser. It should just work...
I am considering upgrading to poserpro 2012 for the file conversion to other formats, I hope this issue is fixed.
G Chrome can apparently crash Poser 8 according to some reports it definately for some reason crashes Poser 2010

My P8 and PoserPro 2010 crashed until I installed an actual version of the Internet Explorer (that I hardly ever use so I wasn't in need of any newer version until then). I run a mirror of my Poser on a server that crashed even after updating each and everything and I found that the Tune Up Utilities and Poser did not like each other. After I deinstalled the Tune Up Utilities the problem was solved.
I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!
And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

The only problem I have with Chrome when running Poser 2010 is that the program will appear to freeze, usually during a render. Shuting Chrome down unlocks 2010 with no loss of any data. Annoying - slightly - showstopper - no at all.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I use poser only occasionally, long enough to forget about the issues between times.
So today I started to try to work on poser8 again, and was greeted with the regular random lockups and crashes as before. I looked around for the solution and found several, everything from updating drivers to not opening web browsers, and a few solutions that seemed to require the sacrifice of small animals and rituals.
Since it has been out for awhile, has this issue ever been fully resolved?
Is poser pro2010 more stable?
thanks all
