At the risk of, once again, outing myself as tragically out of touch,…  just how long has Google had a search function based on image files??   

Only just noticed that Google Images allows you to drag&drop an image onto their page, and it will search for image files that are similar in appearance, rather than searching for similar text.  

!!Caution!! do not drop your own photo on the page – it may be disturbing.    Seems that, to my computer, I appear something similar to either Albert Einstein …or Marilyn Monroe.

(clearly, they've not quite worked the bugs out)

There may be more to the Monroe/Einstein thing than you think.  They did, according to rumour, have an affair for some time.

hmmm... my age is about right...  perhaps could be Marilyn and Al's love-child!   That WOULD explain a lot.

However, more likely a case of the computer just saying: “All you humanoids look alike to me”.

there is also tineye.

they released it too soon.  tineye's results are alot better IMVHO, altho tineye has got a far smaller database.

OK, haven’t poked around much on either site - so both may have it - but both do seem to need some method to adjust the search tolerances.

The Google search returned images that only vaguely resembled the original, but did return quite a few, while the tineye.com site didn’t find any matches for the same unpublished headshot (too specific search parameters?  Looking for a nearly exact match I’m assuming?)

I dropped my senior picture in the search and came up with Justin Beiber and Susan Boyle images!

Umm.  I tried mine and ended up with Grima Wormtongue and Paul Reubens.  Now I'm scared.  :scared:

using firefox/google.  nails it right on the head, I daresay.  tineye couldn't find it, but of course they don't allow porno on the latter :crying:

Hi Nancy!   Odd, but just tried both sites for that image, and, as for you, tineye didn't find it, but, for me, Google didn't find a match either in the first twelve pages of thumbs that it displayed.

So, doesn't seem to be consistent, and I think you were right that this is still in early development.   

Yet, still kinda fun to fool with, seeing some of the pics the app thinks are a close match .

ye may see the term "safe search off" to the right of "advanced search" prior to img compare.  we have ways of doing these things.
