Subject: M4 Dynamic Clothing Shorts drops to floor!

lambo4jos ( ) posted Wed, 17 August 2011 at 8:49 PM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 11:56 AM

Hello,

I am relatively new to using the Poser cloth room, but I have been able to make proper cloth simulations in the cloth room using dresses for V4.

When I attempted to simulate cloth for M4 using a pair of shorts, I followed the same techniques as with the successful V4 simulations, but for some reason I can't get the shorts to sit on Michael 4's hips.  During the Calculate simulation phase, the shorts fall to the floor, and do not stay attached at Micheal 4's hips.

I have parented the shorts to M4's hips.  Is it because the shorts may not be snug enough around the hips?  How do I get the shorts to remain at the hips, and simulate cloth from this position?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has suggestions on how to do this properly.

You'll need to designate a row of vertices around the waistband to be constrained. You can use the group editor.

Adding to Laurie's comments, if you set the waistband as a separate material in your modeler, you can use the materials to set the entire waistband as constrained.  I find that much easier than trying to grab the same polygons all around with the selection tool.

Good point. I wasn't thinking ;)

Thank you very much to the both of you.  I was able to successfully constrain the shorts to M4, and the cloth simulation works flawlessly in Poser Pro 2010.  Great tips from the both of you.

I ran into problems when using PoserFusion inside 3ds Max for this exact clothing simulation though.  This does not perform the same as when inside Poser Pro 2010.  Inside 3ds Max with PoserFusion, the shorts are not visible for the first 21 frames.  Then on Frame 22, it looks like the shorts become visible but are scrunched up and partly inside the body of M4.  As the frames progress toward the final frame of 30, the shorts become less scrunched, until they are not scrunched at all at frame 30, and the shorts are offset from M4's body by a few inches.  Not sure what to make of this as things are working perfectly inside Poser Pro 2010.

I was able to get other clothing items to simluate proplerly inside 3ds Max/PoserFusion plugin, so not sure why this isn't working.

I should note that I am using 3ds Max 2010 and the PoserFusion SR 1.2.  The shorts are from a Daz Dynamic Clothing item, which I exported as an obj, and then loaded into Poser to create a dynamic poser clothing prop.

Any ideas as to what the problem may be or why PoserFusion is not working the same as Poser Pro?

Hey all.  Got it working inside PoserFusion.  Not sure what the reason was for it not working initially, but I may have had some intersections with the cloth and the figure.

It's funny, because it worked correctly in Poser Pro 2010 with these intersections, but within PoserFusion, it seemed to not like them at all.

Thanks for the help once again.

The next time you have this happen, try dialing the "cloth density" to the lowest number you can. I think it's "0000.1"
