There's SnowSultan's tutorials for V2 and V3 but the technique is the same no matter the model. You need to get as many high quality photos as possible and many people buy them from www.3d.sk, which has thousands.
Sticking the photos down is only a small part of the process. You have to blend them together so they don't leave seams around the template edges, for one thing. You should also avoid simply mirroring a texture to get a whole surface, since nobody in real life has symmetrical skin. Another thing to consider is killing off specular highlights and shadows, which are going to be in the photos, no matter how well they're photographed.
Believe me, the process isn't easy by any means, which is why many people buy base skin resource packs. I haven't ever done it that way because I'd rather have a unique texture but it's an easy start for a beginner.

And if you, like me, don't want to get a 3d.sk subscription because you'll need 3 or less different model resources a month, you can check levius' products which are great for skin texturing.- - - - - -

I am a beginner at this process- and hope to improve.
Afrodite and Sam are steering you the right way! I did not follow any tutorials-just cut, pasted, and blended a web photo over an existing V4 texture. It took a LOT more work than the methods they suggest, There is also a tutorial by RebelMommy over at Daz3d.
I plan on redoing this one using some of the tutorials. I think I can improve it- here it is btw.

Quote - How do people usually go about this? I figure you'd have to take several photos of different parts of a person's body, then map them onto the V4 template somehow. Is there a tutorial somewhere for this?
Thanks!
