Subject: PP2012 Install on 64bit PC, should I untick the "install 32 bit files"?

I was about to install PP2012 on my 64 bit PC and the installer correctly browsed to the Program files folder (not the Program files x86 folder).

I just need to know should I untick the "install 32bit files" box before proceeding. Or if I leave it ticked will it install both 64 bit and 32 bit versions of Poser?

I just installed it all. I wasn't sure either.

No you shouldn't if you render any sort of animations directly from Poser. The 64 Bit version doesn't support as many video codecs as the 32 bit version does. In 32 bit you can render to DivX directly, but not in 64 bit because DivX doesn't do 64 bit yet. A lot of video codecs only work in 32 bit still.

And before everyone jumps in and says it's best to render images and put them together in some other program, Yeah yeah, whatever. Some of us want to render to AVI directly from Poser so this information is pertinant  to those of us who do.

Okay I'm a bit lost. Say if I leave the 32 bit box ticked, will it install both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Poser, or just 32 bit? Or will it still install the 64 bit version with additional files for 32 bit?

I would recommend NEVER render animations directly to avi, mov, etc in any program whatsoever. If for some reason the animation is stopped (tsunami, rats munching cables, tornado, darn kids, jealous wife, etc) you lose all that you had rendered of the animation till then.

This is easily remedied rendering to images. And there are tons of freeware proggies that can make movies from a sequence of images (for example, virtualdub).

That being said, if you have a 64bit OS, go for the 64bit version. It can use all your available memory.

But certainly, if for whatever reason you need/want to render directly to animation, the 32bit version has more codecs available. HOWEVER, I would render to a lossless codec, because if you don't give the correct codec settings, you waste precious render times over a lousy looking animation. Saving to a lossless codec avoids this, as you can experiment with compression levels and etc. later, without needing to re-render anything.

If you are on 64bit system and leave the "install 32bit files" ticked, it will install both 64bit and 32bit versions.

I always untick the box, and only install the 64bit version on my 64bit systems.

is it possible to un-install the 32-bit side of things afterwards?
