Hear-hear! However, unlike certain software that is sort-of similar in intent (if not function) there actually is a manual. Actually comes with the product. To DS users, this would be a bit of unfamiliar terrain - granted - but they've even revamped the manual... it is quite well written and surprisingly covers pretty much everything you want to know.
And then, there's this place. A warm, cuddly, lead-you-down-the-primrose-path sort of place, easing you into Poser addiction - I mean, "skilled userdom". Whatever. You'll get used to it.

I still have my first (book version) poser manual. I read it cover to cover, then read it again, and then I read it a third time just to be certain it stuck in my dense noggin. I recall that one of the most baffling things for me was the many file extensions, ie CR2, PZ2, etc.
And then, I found that this place was full of people ready to explain things I couldn't quite grasp. I found them fun and patient with my questions. The whole of it was quite an experience and well worth my time.
I am hoping you have some fun and find your first Poser as satisfying as I had.

Last time I cracked Zbrush open to actually do something in it it was at version 3. Version 4R2 just came out today. I'm totally lost! Speaking of which.... How the HE77 Does Pixlogic afford to stay in business making money if they're still giving FREE upgrades? I haven't paid for Zbrush since I bought the upgrade from 1.55 to 2.0 and they're still giving me free upgrades!!!!

I'm finding the transition from DS3A to PP2012 to be easier than I thought. I love all the new features even the ones I haven't wrapped my head around yet & the resulting renders... OMG. I had P6, so it was quite a leap. Now if I can only figure out how to rig a gate prop without the whole thing bending, I'd be doing great.

Actually, I'm trying to figure out how to rig is now. The gate was in several parts. I figured I had to unify them into one object. It's already been grouped. This is the first time I've ever rigged anything so I'm a little lost. I want to learn though. Below is a quick render. The red are the parts I want to have move.
Sorry for being OT. I have to say, I'm a LOVING PP2012. So much to learn, but I'm gobbling it up.

Looking at your picture I would expect that to be two groups, one for the wall, and one for the door, including the handle. The door would be made a child of the wall, and the rotation point of the door would be moved to inline where the hinges would be.
As an experiment it might be worth importing the wall and importing the door as a seperate object and then using the joint editor to move the rotation point of the door over to where the hinges would be. Then when you rotate the door on its Y axis it will open just like it was a figure. This will give you good practice on using the joint editor, which takes a bit of practice. You will need to be familiar with the joint editor if you are going to rig figures ;-)
Going further, if you wanted to have the doorhandle turn, then you would have three groups:- the wall, the door, and the handle The handle as a child of the door, and the door as a child of the wall.
As you say it is a bit OT for the thread, and there are some great tutorials which explain rigging much more clearly than I could.
