Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 12 3:30 am)
Run the content installers and they should auto-answer themselves with how you answered the question of locating your runtime the first time. If they do not, then answer the same way you did the first time.
The proper method is to unzip all the content installers in the place next to or under the main installer and it would have taken care of all the others on its own.
Isn't there a readme file for this?
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Did you unzip them into the same folder?
Each installer is an executable. Each can be run by you manually.
The main installer asks, at the beginning, if you want to run all the sub-installers, or just do the minimal.
If you've only unzipped a subset, then you must tell it you only want to install a subset.
There are checkboxes for which ones to run. There is also a major choice to just do the minimal (no content) install. If all you have is the main program .exe installer, then you should not be trying to run the other ones that do not exist because you decided not to let them exist.

All downloaded to the same folder Bagginsbill, and the checkboxes for the sub-installers were already checked (ie to install) and I left them alone because I wanted them installed.
I have uninstalled Poser and reinstalled twice with the same error. It tries to run each content install and each one throws up that error.
Really? That's an interesting bug. Would be nice if you report that to SM so they can fix that for the future.

Quote - Success at last! My son figured out what was wrong. I had downloaded all the files to a USB memory stick and ran the install from that. My son moved all the files to Drive C and ran Poser install just now, and all the content installed this time.
Thanks for your help and patience Bagginsbill.
Hmmm strange because I am having the same issues and mine is on my c/drive i followed the readme to the T and after many installs and uninstalls still having issues, even to install V4 :(
I ran the install before I had finished downloading all the content so I had the errors but guessed what must be wrong and continued with the installation (I would have known if I had read the 'Read Me'). I used the default option of the shared folder and, as BB has already stated, the content were all in .exe files that installed no problem. All the options were there as per the main install so I just let it do an install to shared in each case. All my other runtimes are on another drive so I just added them to the library.
I have had no problem so far and I love the fact that when you click on Vicky 4 you don't get a list that scrolls off the bottom of the screen thanks to some of the parts being 'nested' such as Head Parts, Right Shoulder Parts and Left Shoulder Parts. Of course I love all the rest but it was a nice discovery.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
Quote - You know that this is configurable in General preferences?
Thanks Vilters
Clearly I didn't must be the default in 2012 has I can't remember changing anything, thanks for letting me know though, I have so much to learn about Poser of any version.

My installation completely destroyed my current runtime (on separate volume: /Users/Shared)
I started off with a /Users/Shared/Poser Content
After installation, that directory is now gone and I have
/Users/Sahred/Poser Pro 2012 Content
It seems to have some of the stuff that was in my previous directory but is missing tons of stuff (most notably, all the Daz stuff.)
In every way, a complete disaster.
I have a mostly sync'd runtime on my desktop, I can use to rebuild the wreckage. But I can't believe that the installer would DELETE my previous runtime.
I agree with you 100%. I can't (and don't) believe it. Perhaps you accidentally dragged it to someplace and didn't notice.
Have you tried searching for some of the missing content, by name, to see if your OS can find it?

checked. Not in the unemptied trash. not renamed. not hidden.
Yes, I've searched for it.
i used "find" starting from the root. It's nowhere. And my filesystem reads 35GB more space after the installation (I checked, to make sure there was sufficient space for both content directories). That means the OS has freed the disk space. 35GB was the size of my old content :(
I just unzipped the install.log
postinstall goes through my entire content directory, file by file.
Sep 23 07:41:46 Oz installd[39969]: ./postinstall: /Users/Shared/Poser Content/Downloads/Runtime/Textures/vyktohria/DynamicTee
Sep 23 07:41:46 Oz installd[39969]: *** process 39969 exceeded 500 log message per second limit - remaining messages this second discarded ***
Finally gets to:

My fear is that they copied everything from /Poser Content to /Poser Pro 2012 Content, RM'd that directory, and THEN copied the new files from temp directory into the same directory structure, including the directorties. Unix doesn't merge directories, it replaces them. That's why you can't drop content that's just a "runtime" dir structure onto the existing runtime on MAC. You have to use something like RSRConv that merges the files into existing directory.
Hard to tell, I don't have the listing for the postinstall script. If I had it, I could see what it's doing in short order.

Another install question, this time for the Poser content that we download with PP2012. I installed PP2012 on Drive C and the runtime folder on another drive. Where do I install the content files, in the "Poser Pro 2012 Content" folder, or the "Poser Pro 2012 Content/Runtime" folder? Or is it the "Poser Pro 2012 Content/Runtime/Libraries" folder? Or do I import the content from inside Poser, if so to what folders?
