Subject: Anyone tried Urban PAD to create buildings/cities?

Just wondering if anyone had tried to use Urban PAD to create buildings or cities.  They are having a 2 week special which seems prety tempting.

Never heard of the app until I ran across a thread promoting the 2 week special.

Thoughts?

Working on it now.

Currently the only export formats from UrbanPad are Collada and Autodesk's *.fbx file format.  The developers have promised an *.obj and a *.3ds in future versions.

UrbanPad has a pretty good (meaning semi-difficult) learning curve. Probably just because the user interface is entirely novel.  And, the only documentation is in onboard "help" "snippets."  "Snippets" at best. There are some UTube videos - going through them now.

But the program does look promising for general use with Vue.

Unfortunately, I've got to drop this experimentation for at least the next three weeks, but I'll report back here on what I learn.

Anyone else experimenting with this program, please report back on your experiences as well.

Thanks.  I put in an order too to try it out.

Cheers...

I wonder how Urban PAD compares with City Engine? There doesn't seem to be a gallery at the Urban PAD site...

I get the feeling that Urban Pad hasn't reached that 'critical mass' point where there are a lot of users creating with it.  Think that was the point behind the 'sale'.  Now that Gamer7 has managed to create a large number of users, it is only a matter of time before people create and submit models and pix, and ultimately pronounce judgement as to how well it works.

What is very positive in my eyes is Gamer7s' constant development schedule - a new beta every few weeks of so.

Thanks to everyone for making this special a success! The first renders are rolling in on the Forum. Show us what you've been doing with Ürban PAD, and stay tuned - more exciting news is on the way, and a new version will be released tomorrow.
