Well, I posted this in the "Most Asked Questions" thread and apparently these questions weren't asked enough to get an answer, rofl

Sorry for the double post, but I'd really like an answer to these and I can't seem to find it in the manual. Yes, I did RTFM, well, OK, skimmed the manual and the index, couldn't find it. lol

Any help would be greatly appreciated... 

I am totally inexperienced in Poser. I loaded up Poser 7 which I've had for  a long time, to see if I could switch from Daz Studio 2.3, to Poser without too much frustration, lol. I'd like to jump to the newer version of Poser coming out.

OK, questions

  1. Can I view through a light, so I can see exactly where the light is shining?

  2. Can I use say, an M4 skin/texture on  V4, via the material room maybe? In DS you just switch UV's/geometries  and wala..done

3.Can I save a scene in Poser, then merge it with another scene. I like to set up the environment, save it close it, then set up my characters, then "merge" the two scenes. Not in post, but within Poser. In DS there is a merge funciton, just curious if I can do the same in Poser.

Lights:-
Yes, Right click anywhere in the preview window. Select "Camera View" followed by the "Shadow Cam Lite" for your light.

Materials:-
Yes providing that the geometries and UV mapping are the same which I think they are for V4/M4. With V4 in the scene go to the Material room. Save her materials as a Material Collection. i.e all of the materials in one go. Load M4 and apply that material collection to him.

Scenes:-
Yes, load first scene then File > Import > Poser Document.

  1. Yes - look for 'Shadow Cams' in the Camera View options from the pulldown menu or by right-clicking in the preview window

  2. No, but there are 'remaps' (where M4 can take V4 textures, for example) at ShareCG.

  3. Yes - File > Import > PoserScene (or PZ3, I don't remember)

Points 1 and 3 are explained in the manual, which you should read.

  1. In Poser 8 you sort of can by choosing under Camera controls the light you'd like to look thru. I'm not sure how accurate it is ;). I can't remember if it can be done in Poser 7 ;).

  2. Can't do this as far as I know.

  3. You can do this by going to File/Import/Poser Document and chosing another .pz3 scene file if you wish. I know it can be done in Poser 8 and I believe it could be done in P7.

Hi Cimaira,

  1. Sure ... look in the "Camera's" list and choose the "Shadow Lite (x) Cam".

  2. Not sure ... try it and you'll find out purdy quick if it works.

  3. Sure ... Use the "File" >>> "Import" >>> "Poser Document/Prop..."
    to merge another .pz3 file with the file already loaded in the studio.

I have not been here as long as the various cross-posting responders, but in my time I have never seen a quadruple cross-post (five "first response" posts) before. Pretty amazing.


Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I did skim through the manual, but it is very big, very tiny print and I am an impatient  person, I want to play , so thank you to those who answered without scolding me ;)

aha, it's the backgrounds for the post, I knew something was different, yep, I like it, I can actually see the words, lol

 

Thank you again for all those that helped me out here, I can see I'll have no trouble getting used to Poser. Especially with all the helpful people around here :)

Tip for you if you're going to import poser documents (or merge as you say):

If you have a set saved for example a room and you have lights in the room and you import another Poser scene you will also import the lights meaning that you will end up with the lights from both scenes (very bright). If you want to keep the lighting from your room then save the lighting, import the scene and then apply your lighting.

That way you will end up with all the elements from both scenes but only the lighting you want.

Actually you can remap M4 to accept V4 textures using the free UV mapper Classic.

After you download and install UVmapper classic, load the V4 obj into UVmapper create the UVS and save it to a folder where you can locate it. 

Load M4.  Apply the saved V4 UVS to M4.  Save the remapped M4 obj with a new name in the same folder the other geometry is in.

Open up the cr2 file for M4 in a text editor.  Change the obj file name in the cr2 to the remapped obj.  Save the Cr2 under a new name to you don't overwrite the original. 

If everything is working, you should be able to load the remapped M4 via the cr2.

If you don't want to go through this, search the DAZ forums, remaps were done when M4 first came out.

Also M4/Mina sold at DAZ has a remapped figure of M4 that accepts V4 maps as well.

Thanks icprncss2! I guess that would work in reverse if I wanted to use an M4 texture on V4, correct?

I found the remapped version of M4, but cannot find a remapped V4. I like to use my M4 horror textures on V4 ;)

 

and when you say load the M4, you mean to load it into UV mapper, I assume, lol

Thanks hborre, I actually managed to accomplish remapping V4, she now takes M4 textures beautifully :)

Wasn't there a free utility to transfer V4 mats to M4.  I had it on another machine, but I can't find it now.   It used RTE and I can't find it in any search.  I have it for converting M4/V4 mats for K4 ... Help please.
