Check the comparitive chart (linked) as there are several things that are Infinite only.SkinVue is extra.
The biggest thing you will notice i think, is that the GUI is very different, and lots of things that you take for granted in Infinite become a chore in complete. I cant remember exactly what all the things where, but i remember when i did upgrade it was a fantastic moment for me.
One of the main annoyances in the GUI of complete (im not sure if it was fixed in v9) was that the function editor colours where the same as the connections, which made it extremely hard to use IMO.
There are also differences in the values in the things like graphs and the such, these are minor things which youll get used to though...
I went the other way, from complete to Infinite (im pretty much using it daily for work these days!) and I cant go back now. This is just my personal view though, you could try the PLE and see if you miss any thing?
Hope this ramble through my mind helps somehow..

In Complete, only a few GUI schemes are available, and they are not customizable. Units are not customizable (you only have the default Vue units, with default internal units), no multipass/G buffer. No python (onlys scripts available through Corn , and as for now only SkinVue, but not for free)
This is what comes to my mind, but check the comparative charts.
Thanks for the info peeps - unfortunately, it looks like 8.4 will be my last version of Vue (unless I come into a bunch of money that is  ) which is a shame but there you go

FrankT,
Do not ruin your hobby by downgrading to Vue Complete (and waste money doing it). That's all I wanted to say.

I am a Hobby user too. My main Programs are Poser, Vue, 3D-Coat and Marvelous Designer. Not the most expensive apps but very powerful in combination. For Vue Infinite I use the maintenance plan since Vue 7. The subscription cost me $195 per year. This was the best deal I ever made!
My suggestion is: Update now to Vue 9 Infinite and start maintenance plan. You will get Vue 10;10,5 and 11 in future.

I'd love to Mazak but I simply don't have that much spare cash available - there are way more important things I need to spend best part of £300 on

World has changed since Vue6. World is no longer flat. E-on has changed its business model from an update model to a subscription model.
The updates from Vue5 to Vue6Infinite did cost me $249.
The updates from Vue6 to Vue7Infinite did cost me $395.
Now the updates cost me $195 with maintenance plan. We are now at Vue10. E-on did a business, they are not a charitable organization. They need money to survive. You have leaved I am not. It’s simple, isn't it?

I found that the interface difference between Infinite and Complete to be quite annoying. The "classic" Vue interface can be quite annoying at times. I also like the "widgets" better in Infinite. I really don't understand why the difference between Complete and Pro has to be so dramatic. Vue Complete isn't a cheap software for most hobbiest, so it's not like we're being given a huge price break. They could give the hobbiest a break and let us have the better interface--after all that has nothing to do with the higher end functions that would only be used by CG professionals. The interface isn't a big enough reason for me to shell out that much more money for Infinite; especially since on my systems in the past my ability to use Vue was much curtailed by not running a 64 bit OS with lots of Ram (which I remedied now).

I currently have Vue 8.4 infinite but I can't justify upgrading to any later infinite versions (this is just a hobby afterall) so if I sidegrade to Vue 9 complete, what am I likely to not have ? (I assume all the modules are in it and what about SkinVue ??)
Thanks in advance
Frank
