Subject: My character loads, but doesn't show. Please help

Mariamus ( ) posted Mon, 31 October 2011 at 3:07 PM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 12:18 AM

I built a neck to combine a head with M4's body.

I used this tutorial http://www.juno.dti.ne.jp/~yamato-k/Step1.html as a reference, and everything was going pretty smooth until I did the part with editing the cr2 file. I pointed it to the new obj file and removed head-morphis in the cr2 file with morph manager.

But when I load it in Poser (Pro Pack 2012) it loads. The figure is in the hierachy editor and everything, but the figure itself is invisible. There's not even an outline of it or anything.

I've tried going through the cr2 file, but I can't see what should be wrong.

Could someone please help me. I'm working on a little project, and if I can't get this character to load, I have to do a compromise that I will hate for eternity.

Perhaps post the cr2 as a text here so people could spot the problem (if that's what's wrong) :)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Let's try this again. 1 mb rar format.

This might be worth a try. Try changing the next to last line in the file, the one just above the closing brace, to read "setGeomHandlerOffset 0 0.3487 0" (without the quote marks). Every other cr2 I have ever seen uses that exact same line, but yours uses "0 0 0" in that line. It may have nothing to do with the problem, but it's probably worth a try.

I tried putting the original reference to the blMilMan_m4b.obj back into your cr2. It loaded the geometry, and seems to work OK (even with your setGeomHandlerOffset line). This leads me to suspect that the problem is with the obj file "vinnietest1.obj", not the cr2.

For a start, import the vinnietest1.obj into Poser with all import options unselected. Check that the object loads in approximately the expected position, and at the approximately correct scale. If that seems OK, check that the grouping in the obj file is correct. Open the obj file in a text editor, and search for the string "g " (g followed by a space). The group names in the "g" lines should correspond to the names in the "geomHandlerGeom" lines in the first section of your cr2, eg:

g head

in the obj file, and ...

geomHandlerGeom 13 head

... in the cr2 file.

You should not need to go through every actor, but check that at least the central parts, hip, abdomen, chest, neck, and head, are correct.

I tried looking in the obj file, and I changed m4body to body, vinniehead to head and so on.

When I load it now, the head shows up, but nothing else. I can't seem to find out what is wrong. It must be somewhere in the obj file, but I'm missing where it is. :-/

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Haven't had time until now.

Alright. i got the figure to load completely. but the head and neck don't want to co-operate. The rest of the body connects with one another, and doesn't cause any problems. but the neck and head split at the seam. The head seems to want to have an orbit entirely to itself...
