Subject: Normals maps

MikeNTexas ( ) posted Mon, 31 October 2011 at 2:14 PM · edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 5:19 AM

I bought a Daz Kids 4 bundle a few months ago when it was on sale.  While it had a number of textures in the bundle there was no normals map.  So does anyone know how I can created a normals map for my figure or can find one?

Also, I did try to search for an answer to this before I asked.

might I ask why you need a normal map ? isn't the bump map sufficient ?

Normal maps can be seen in preview in P9/PP2012, bump and displacement maps cannot be seen in preview, but must be rendered.

But the OP did not specify which Poser version.  Unfortunately, most content will not have any associated normal mapping considering that it's appearance did not occur until P8/PP2010.  (was it also available in P7/PP?)  Anyway, there are manual ways to create such maps through Photoshop and GIMP.  Nvidia and ATI provide a free plugins, GIMP has it inclusive in it's software.  There are other indirect ways of creating such maps but they are more labor intensive.

I probably used the wrong term    I meant the texture map with the grid lines  that you start working with.

That's called the texture template.  Hborre, Poser Pro (the version based on Poser 7) supported normal maps but not in preview.

Thanks.   So texture templates  does anyone know how I can make some  or where I could find some?

A UV template?  Get the free version of UVMapper, import the K4 OBJ and save out the template as a bmp file.

The texture templates are usually available as a free download on the product page at Daz3D.

It is generally at the bottom of the page.

If you bought a bundle, you will have to search out the individual products

Yep, Medzinatar is correct.  Bottom of the page under Resources & Information.  For the Kids 4 base, it can be found at this link:
