Hi,

A friend of mine, talented photographer (www.etiennehubin.com) has challenged myself : is vue able to recreate the atmosphere of one of his favorite photo ?

This is the real photo (see attach)

I thought this should not be a problem, but in fact I cannot aproach a good enough result to show him. Does someone could help me ? This picture was taken early in the morning and there is a lot of haze. I know I could fake the ambiance in photoshop or similar software but the goal is to approach the original using vue and minor post processing.

Thanks in advance !

The photo looks like a Vue render.  This challenge is do-able, I'd say.

Wow, great ! You are fast and talented ! Don't you mind to share your settings or upload your scene (this would be great!)?. Of course I don't need the bird unless this is a freebee.

Thanks

The scene was made in Vue 10 Infinite. Do you have that one? Otherwise you won't be able to open it. I would delete the bird, it not a free one. If you do not have 10, I can do a couple of screen shots of the main atmosphere settings tomorrow.

Hi,

Thanks for your help. I'm on Vue 9 complete (I will update to 10 complete when it will be released). Most of the time I'm able to open scenes created with Vue 9 infinite. But screenshots are welcome if it does not take too much of your time.

No problem. I'll get some shots of the atmosphere settings and scene setup once I get to work (the file is on my office PC) and post it later today.

Here you go. This should allow you to get close and then you can optimize from there. I used the "Life and Death" atmosphere preset as a starting point. I added a terrain with a dark greenish texture to block the horizon.

Let me know if you need help with anything.

Hi thd777,

You help me a lot ! I see in your clouds tab there is a cloud layer named "fog". Is is a preset or is it a home made? In fact I don't find a fog layer in the preset . I  approached your settings by modifying the "Dense cumulus layer".

Thank you again, you put me on the right way to create this atmosphere. Now I have to play to get close the wanted effect. It's the funniest part with vue ...

No problem. The "fog" was not a preset. I started from one of the stratus layers that come with Vue.

Have fun experimenting, that's how I learned my way around Vue. If you run into problems, let me know.

By the way, with your settings I am close to your first render but I could not reproduce the thin fog layer in the background like in the original picture. You were able to do it in your pod render. Could you please explain how you did it ?

Sure, here is some more detail for the cloud/fog setup. I think the most important "trick" was to move the fog layer around in the top view to find the best spot for the render.
