Subject: UV Mapper for poser props

Ive been trying to use UV Mapper and mapping magician to create maps for the simple Obj props that came with the poser4 CD. It works with the simple shapes i create with UV Mapper but not with the props that came with poser-the maps don't apply correctly. I save the model and the template with the default settings but the maps wont apply correctly in poser or bryce. Can anyone help or should I just learn to use painter 3d?

Sometimes the maps need to be rotated or flipped to line up properly. -JH.

heya; when you save the model from uvmapper, check the box that says flip coordinates vertically. save the map straight up. it should apply fine. note that poser applies texture maps upside down from every other known program. if you wanted to use the texture map in bryce, or even painter3d, you need to flip it vertically again. if you have your 2d app open and try flipping the texture, then resave with the same name; be sure to switch cameras in poser to get it to reload the texture so you can see the actual new changes.

You mentioned that you are saving the models. If you are not giving them new file names, be sure that you are moving or deleting any prior .RSR file, in the same directory, with the same filename, as the new .OBJ file you are creating. Poser first looks for this faster loading binary .RSR file whenever the .OBJ file is requested. If it does not find the .RSR, only then will it look for an load the actual .OBJ file (at which time it will automatically create a new .RSR). The point is if you have an .RSR by the same name as your new .OBJ, Poser will use the old .RSR and not your new .OBJ. ... and Bloodsong, thanks for the "switch cameras" trick for reloading maps with the same name. -Nance

WEll im saving the objects in a different directory with a different name-but where is poser saving the .rsr file? if i delete the object is poser leaving useless files somewhere?

Sorry, the thing about the .RSR file conflict was in reference to the .OBJ files in your Geometries folders for poseable figures opend with .CR2 files, not props or .PP2 files.

heya; oh yeah, the rsr's... forgot about them. actually, nance, i think jeff h told me the switching cameras trick. my trick was to render with no options to a 2x2 pixel window... but switching cameras is faster! ;)
