You guys should have an animation contest! Give us 2 or 3 months so we can put out some quality stuff!

Hi 3DLust, we tried some simple contests there, but get no answer from the users. Dont know if Daz will give some prizes to give to, so dotn know if people will like to enter a contest without prizes.

I doubt people would enter without prizes - well, maybe a few would. :)

Daz would most likely give some - they did for C3DE contest.

The only contest I saw at CarraraCafe was to create a logo when it first opened, but

honestly, the logo was already good :)

GKDantas ( ) posted Fri, 23 December 2011 at 5:16 AM

I need to close the logo contest at CC, and theres good new ideas for the logo. But yes even when theres good prizes, people dont enter in contests. Look the 2011 Holyday contest here, theres a lot fo good prizes and they dont get more then 3 pages of images!

That reminds me, I was working on a carraracafe logo but as usual for me, never finished it.

Well, one of the reasons I don't enter the contests here is the popular vote thing. Plus, the themes are rather bland and generic. Verging on the uninspiring. For contrast, look at the last Dystopia contest at DAZ -- they had much fewer prizes, but they had twice as many imaes as the blah "Holiday Dreams" contest here. I think an inspiring theme with a stylistic flavor was the key. Aery Soul had a very small forum (when they were still running it) and their prizes were also products, but they had a fantastic theme, advertised the contest here and at DAZ and had a lot of entries, even though many people had learned of their forum for the first time because of the contest and had to register there.

I would love some good Carrara contests. But I think the thing to do is to find a great theme and to advertise the contest throughout the community: DAZ forum, ask DAZ to feature it in their newsletter, here at the forum, maybe see if Renderosity can support it and promote it too. And I would do 2 categories: one for all users and one for new users of Carrara, so people who don't know Carrara yet would have an extra reason to check it out.

Another thing Carrara Cafe needs is good notification system. And a newsletter.

Oh, and that reminds me. Would you like to add more images to existing Showcase profiles?

By the way, did Mark refuse to participate? He is one of the most prominent users of the software.

Also, what about Ben Craig? I think a lot of people would like to hear more about his use of Carrara and his workflow.

GKDantas ( ) posted Fri, 23 December 2011 at 11:31 AM

Hi Antaram we are always open to ne wprofiles and showcase images. I contacted mark at the bgining but he is traveling and couldnt send the profile and images. After that Daz almost get us in the dark... we dont receive to create and mantain CC, but the site is owned by them anyway.

Tjheres a lot of things that we need there, but the porr hoster dont allow us to do many things, we are thinking in change the hoster inm the next year, so we can have more space and a more faster site load too.

About newsletter we need more people writing, creating and helping to develop the content of the site too, but this a really hard thing to find.

I personally think daz soon will stop development of carrara.

after bryce and hexagon, carrara wil be the next step.

only daz main program dazstudio is what counts to them.

bryce = now infinito in dazstudio

hexagon = opensource blender

carrara = all you can do with blender

carrara will be replaced by a new and better dazstudio soon or later

but it's only one of my personal views,  I not would start thread wars with this message.

manleystanley ( ) posted Thu, 29 December 2011 at 8:07 AM

Then why did you post to it? This thread was a heads up to carrarest that there is a carrarest forum. Not for you to spout your paraniod delusions.

Comparing infinito to Bryce is like comparing that bycile in your grage to the Harley down the street. You obviuosly know very little about ether.

Hexagon I have and can use, you couldn't pay enough to beat my head against Blender again.

No there is quite a bit carrara can do Blender can't even dream about. Once again you prove you know nothing of ether app.

And there is little comparisen between studio and carrara, the only thing they have in commen is they both use content.

Let me guess you don't have and have never used any of these apps. If I send you $5 will you go buy a clue.

DAZ is still developing Bryce and Hex2.5. Don't know where you got the idea they stopped. And considering I am in contact with DAZ dept heads and DAZ developers, I think I know a bit more about it then you do.

Right. However, probably that bycicle can/will be upgraded so that may become, one day, a decent motorcycle...

And one day Carrara will have a manual, and DAZ will have a dynaimc clothing creation app, but I wouldn't hold my breath ;)

GKDantas ( ) posted Sat, 07 January 2012 at 12:09 PM

The Daz Studio dynamic cloth will load in Carrara now. They are working in the DazStudio (some general Daz3D) file format, this way everything you us ein DazStudio, Bryce and Carrara can open in any other package without problem.
