Updated to SR1, now there's nothing in the Library Pallette. No runtimes, no buttons or icons that can be clicked, nothing at all. Closed the pallette and reopened it, didn't help. I was only using the internal library before the update.

Win or Mac. If it altered the library settings, then it should have made a backup of you library prefs. DL'ing my self and doing a full back up before I install, otherwise I could answer better. Look for a file LibraryPrefs.xml. This is the file that points at your runtimes. You can edit with a text editor or possibly replace with a back up. Add a runtime first to see if that solves the problem. then look at the file and check the paths.

Internal is not AIR so updating that is unhelpful. Internal is Flash. But... many things can be the problem. If there are no buttons at all, that is odd.

Be aware that if you have firewalls or UAC or any other clever stufff protecting you, Poser SR means your system thinks this is new software and will not apply what you told it before. It sometimes even thinks your Poser executable is now a virus becuase it is not the same as it was yesterday. Hahahahaah. People should band together and literally hunt down and kill Virus authors. They have no redeeming qualities and they steal time from literally billions of people. They should die.

PS: I have been enjoying some wine.

This is the Mac version of PP2012. LibraryPrefs.xml had the correct paths, but I replaced it with a pre-SR1 backup anyway. Didn't help. Besides, the problem isn't just no runtimes in the Library, there aren't even any buttons to click to add a runtime, or tabs, or options bar at the bottom, or anything. The whole Library UI is missing. I had the latest Flash prior to SR1, as well.

I clicked through that preferences page too quickly, and ended up reset to the factory defaults.

Hi!

Does anybody know if the SR is available at Content Paradise? Ive looked but cant find any.

I would download it from Smith Micro but ive had trouble getting every released SR from them as both

https://store.smithmicro.com:4433/signin.aspx

and

https://store.smithmicro.com:4433/signin.aspx?ReturnUrl=cart.aspx

times out for me and refuses to load (happens at home and at work as well).

I usualy end up writing Smith Micro support but would be happy not to go down that route again.

imax24, was your update applied to disk-installed version?  which flash version have you?

in response to imax24's post which occurs 2 posts after this one, would suggest installing apps in apps folder, even if apps installers seem to violate obsolete (>=10.6) OS X rule against installing content in apps folder.

p.s. one should not kill bill's "Virus authors" - rather one should use them, as we saw in a recent Iranian incident.

grichter, did you notice that the Mac installer skips right past the Destination step and doesn't let you choose where to install? It automatically installs to the Applications folder even if PP2012 is installed somewhere else.

Thus there is a partial install (with a new PP2012 app and a few new runtime files) in Applications and my original full install, not iupdated, in a different place. I manually copied the new stuff into the original installation folder, replacing where necessary. I suspect somehow in there I lost the library.

I will probably have to move my original install to where the updater expects it to be. Because the updater doesn't seem to know there IS no Poser where it is installing the new files. It's creating a new Poser 2012 folder and a new, very incomplete runtime.

Yes, I only have a disk-installed PP2012 on my computer. I didn't get the download version.

My Flash Player is 11.1.102.55, the latest available on the Adobe update page.

I didn't have any problems with the library and preferences once I copied my backed up ones over. However, in preview I no longer see shadows, which is a pain.

Since I have it in my apps folder and content in my share folder all the PP2012 default locations, I didn't pay attention of where it was going. Just let it run.

It sounds like the update reset your Preview settings. You should be able to change it back to use hardware shading and show shadows in Preview.

Personally I only use shadows in Preview to check the lighting, then turn them off again once I'm satisfied. It bogs down camera and dial performance too much for my taste to leave it on all the time.

Well, moving my original installation to Applications and then running the update did the trick. Apparently, even though the original installation lets you choose where to install, the Mac updater doesn't. It puts its new files in only one location (Apps) whether Poser exists there or not. You have to move your original install where the updater wants it to be, and you have to do it BEFORE running SR1. There is no mention of this in the Read Me, of course.

In my case, on a Mac, I lost the Library because the installer expects to find Poser in one place and one place only. I had moved Poser after initial installation, and the updater isn't smart enough to deal with that. I don't know if it's the same deal for the PC version, or if that's your problem at all.  If it is, you need to move or re-install Poser to where the updater expects it to be, then install SR1.

MacMyers ( ) posted Tue, 20 December 2011 at 2:21 PM

Sorry I can't point you in the direction of the one I have that will load them all at once from semidieu, but there is one in poser for loading all the preferences from your previous poser version.  so go to scripts at the top of your poser and look around. You might be surprised what other little helpful goodies are there.

The update changed my default gamma correction to 1.00.  It used to be 2.20.  I never changed it, because 2.2 looked good.

Now I'm wondering if I should change it back to 2.2.

If you actually want GC, then 2.2 is what you should be using (1.0 is equivalent to no GC).

vilters ( ) posted Wed, 21 December 2011 at 7:03 AM

The SR1 does not change settings.
If your current default was set to 1?
Set it back to 2.2 and save under General preferences as your default scene.

I have a very personal default scene, and its the first thing I do after every update.

Load my preferred scene and save it as my default under General preferences.

Yes, it does.  You have three options when you install the update. The default reverts Poser to the factory default.

The factory default for GC is apparently 1.00 now, instead of 2.2.  Basically, I was wondering if there was a reason for that.

imax24 ( ) posted Wed, 21 December 2011 at 9:12 AM · edited Wed, 21 December 2011 at 9:13 AM

The Mac installer for SR1 did not offer any options whatsoever. And it did not change the gamma in Render Settings.

Amen to that!  Took me a lot of fiddling to get my default interface back to the way it was.  (and still cant get my scripts to stay in place the way they were)  The Second option is to back up your settings, but it gives you no clue where it backed them up to?

parkdalegardener ( ) posted Wed, 21 December 2011 at 10:51 AM

I must be doing something wrong. The SR installed without issue. No settings were changed. My defaults remained as they were. No runtimes disappeared. The only changes to my default setup is that the D3D render script had SSS ticked as a default. Not a bad thing. My Queue Manager did request the serial number to be enterd again but I don't see that as a problem either. Win 7 64 with heavy duty UAC mods applied at all times. I did not update the 32 bit installation as I do not have it installed.

Did you tick the "keep settings" option?

I didn't.  I flew through the screens so fast I didn't read carefully.  😊

If you do choose the keeps settings option, it does keep all your settings and libraries.  (I know, because I also updated a copy of Poser 9.  I went slower with that one, changed the default option to keep settings, and it did keep all my settings and runtimes.)

I still think the default should be keep settings, rather than revert to factory, but I should probably read more carefully before clicking "next."  One of these days I'm going to end up being Bill Gates towelboy because I clicked "I agree" without reading it first.  ;-)

vilters ( ) posted Wed, 21 December 2011 at 11:05 AM

The queston to remove, backup, or keep the prefrences is normally asked during the SR1 install.
If any change happened during the SR1 install, it is here that you had the choice to do so or not.
Where the backup files go, depends on your OS and UAC settings.

The default setting for gamma correction in the render settings still is 2.2 (PoserPro2012) Poser9 does not have gama correction.

SSS is defaulted to ON in the normal render settings also.

Happy Posering to ya all.

I know Poser 9 doesn't have GC.  I have copies of both 9 and 2012.  And, Poser 2012 set itself to 1 when I applied the update.  I never changed the original setting, and anyway, as I said, all settings reverted to factory defaults because of the option I (didn't) choose.  And GC is now 1.00.

No big deal to change it back.  I'm just curious about why the default has changed.

imax24 ( ) posted Wed, 21 December 2011 at 12:21 PM

Since updating with SR1 there has been a significant lag when switching cameras and when typing text in PP2012 (Mac). First there is a delay of a coouple seconds when nothing happens, then there is a further delay of 3-5 seconds while The Beachball of Death spins. This did not happen before SR1.

An odd thing with the typing -- this lag thing happens even when typing in a Save dialog as well as typing in parameter values or naming something to save to the library.

Anyone else, MAc or PC, see this?

A nice fix that is not documented: I no longer must move my cursor over the Preview window before any action in the Library takes effect. This was a problem in the original PP2010 and was fixed in one of the SRs, then appeared again in the original PP2012.

PilotHigh ( ) posted Wed, 21 December 2011 at 3:43 PM

Do any of the Mac users still have that annoying white hand instead of a proper cursor? And my scrollwheel still doesn't work in the library.
