Subject: memory ( RAM ) - used for vue rendering.

valmik ( ) posted Fri, 23 December 2011 at 12:31 AM · edited Fri, 27 December 2024 at 1:06 AM

hey frnds, i have core i7- RAM of 8gb & win 64 Bit OS. 1ce i m done wit my scene in VUE 9.5 and i render it in any quality, the problem i face is my system RAM is not completely used. my system uses only 3gb to max 4gb for render.

is there any other option where i can use my all 8gb of RAM to render, hence can speed my render.

Is there any specific settings in VUE or need to do smething with windows.

Dumb question. Are you using the 64 bit version? 32 bit software hits the RAM limit right where you are stating.

RAM doesn't help render speed, processor speed does

If Vue is using 3gigs, it's simply because it needs 3gigs, no more no less. If Vue needed 6gigs, it would use 6 gigs, since you have a 64bit system with 8 gigs of ram.

I ment the 64 bit version of vue vs the 32 bit version

It doesnt matter, Vue will automatically start in 64 bit mode if it detects a 64 bit operating system, there aren't 2 different versions of Vue :)

Would be nice if telling Vue to use more RAM would increase its rendering speed.  But that only works in Star Trek.

RAM is useful for rendering if you have some dynamic ecosystems in your scene.

In that case, you will notice that Vue will increase the amount of RAM used at the beginning of your render, when creating the dynamic ecosystems.

I made my "Mad Gorges" (http://www.cornucopia3d.com/focus/OlivierFfrenchFocus.php?intro) scene in Vue 7 and was barely able to work on it with 8 gigs of RAM.
I can no longer render it in V8, 9 or 10 because I do not have enough RAM to handle the dynamic ecosystem. When rendering, Vue eats up all the available memory, which forces my PC to swap and reduces it to a crawl.

Why would a Vue 7 scene not render in later versions?
