Subject: Hi! DAZ 3D wants to chat.

I said they're not accurate, there are some places that have higher numbers of visitors than a counter may show. Do what Richard says for a more accurate number, and compare DAZ's graph to RDNA's, which Janl said earlier had 10 times what DAZ had.

I said no such thing, SnowSultan. Please get your facts right.

And, NO ONE who does web work for a living puts ANY value behind Alexa numbers.  Zero.

Alexa measures only those users who have the toolbar installed.

Guys - there are lies, damn lies, statistics and promotional promises.

There's not enough meat on these numbers for an insect to live off, and I'm pretty sure we could find numbers from one source or another to prove just about anything.

SnowSultan - I'm horrified by your lax attitude to math as displayed here. 10 times is NOT the same as 10.296875 times!

:D

Folks, that's a grin. Remember those? We can discuss stuff and STILL BE FRIENDLY! ;)

You know, it was nice here for a minute last night. Now you guys find something else to hit DAZ with, inaccurate numbers to show how insignificant they are! The fun just never ends here.  :P

"Please be more careful about putting words in people's mouths. It just is not nice to spread rumours."

Yeah you be sure to remember that too. You said RDNA had 659 visitors online and DAZ has 64. 10 times, I didn't make up squat.

edit: You're right Who3D, sorry for my awful math!  ;)

For people who do not like to talk about Poser in this Poser forum Rendo generously created this forum a long time ago:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showforum.php?forum_id=12452

or you could always go and make up the numbers elsewhere. :m_laugh:

"Seriously-- if DAZ had thousands of customers complaining about this, such that it was apparent that the majority of customers hated the installers, don't you think DAZ would pay attention?"

No, not at all. It's my opinion Dan got demoted for caving in to popular demand when DS4 was released. Face it folks, soon it will be the DAZ way or the highway.

And with the amount of censorship going on at the DAZ forum you never know what the actaully majority want, as negative posts get deleted. So if the majority has a negative opinion you would never know.

There are a lot of people that had posts deleted from the DAZ forum that have just quit posting there. After all the forum is just another cog in the DAZ marketing machine. Even though a car delership may be selling lemons, they don't want any one out front saying as much. Dosen't matter if your negative post is based in facts it will get deleted.

How do you keep a populess ignorent?

By controling the media.

No, the DAZ forum is no place to discuss actual issues. If all you read is the DAZ forum you don't know about the virtual store propasistion, you don't know just what CMS is, and you know nothing about DSF. Keep the sheep ignorent of the slaughthouse and they will follow you right to it.

My ban will be up shortly, Richard knows I wont be asking for my priveldges back. I want no part of the DAZ propaganda machine. The topics I'd want to bring up, if they didn't get me an immeadatet ban, they would certainly get an immeadate deletion. DAZ's loss not mine. I still help people through PM's and get thanked every time.

Be ready, DAZbrother is coming. If you want to shop at DAZ you had better have CMS installed, and be downloading to a content folder.

Honestly I'd like to think DAZ isn't that foolish, but I have seen DAZ pull some pretty boneheaded plays before, so it certainly wouldn't surprise me.

SnowSultan ( ) posted Tue, 27 December 2011 at 10:58 AM

Yes, and with the attitude towards DAZ that many members have here, I am not at all surprised that's it's dead.

Haha, one minute Manley speaks the truth and the next he turns into Glenn Beck.  ;)  I wish you guys would stop saying that DAZ bans and removes posts for no reason, THEY DON'T. There is a difference between giving constructive, well-worded negative criticism and simply mouthing off.

Renderosity is much more than just the Poser forum. And there are many folks posting renders and photos besides going through the marketplace. The DAZ forum I believe is just showing members logged into the forum which has a lot fewer sections than here. It's not an equal comparison.

Both renderosity.com and daz3d.com have a Google PageRank of 5 out of 10.

renderosity.com has 90 quality backlinks according to Google.

daz3d.com has 204 quality backlinks accordng to Google.

Both sites are spidered all the time by Google.

LaurieA ( ) posted Tue, 27 December 2011 at 12:01 PM

and ANY of this is important why?

If the Daz people are done with this thread, now is a good time to lock it.

I have reverse-banned Daz. I got an extremely politely worded PM asking me to be more positive in my comments. I have no f'ing idea what they were referring to since everything I said there recently was straight information, with no attitude.

So I'm not posting there again until February, when I will lift my reverse ban on Daz forums.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Re: relative visits to 3D sites

I think it is likely that DAZ has much fewer casual surfers wandering in for a moment to catch a glimpse of some scantily-clad and naked 3D girls.  Renderosity is a much bigger magnet that way, sort of like Walgreens compared to Joe's Drugstore (in size, I mean). So we may be getting a lot of peeps from peeping Toms (some of whom like what they see and end up getting into 3D, so not dismissing them in any way). I don't think DAZ gets that kind of traffic. They don't allow nudity in product images.

mackis3D ( ) posted Tue, 27 December 2011 at 12:53 PM

Now it really feels Orwellian. Snooping around user's purchases and asking for "positive" thinking... One day they're asking their customers to call them "beloved leader of Genesis creation".

flibbits ( ) posted Tue, 27 December 2011 at 1:04 PM

I like that reverse ban.  The Chicago Bulls have a message board that's hardly used because their mods liked to alter people's posts.  There were times they changed posts to mean the opposite of what the poster intended.

Once, when I questioned the mods, one replied that he figured I had mis-written the post, so he changed it to what I must have meant.

The Bulls chat service demands that I allow them to post as me on Facebook.  Needless to say that was an aborted registration.

I believe Penguinisto said "Context - it's what's for dinner". Every time we hear about DAZ 'censoring' someone, we only hear it from the side of the user. Did no one ever stop to think that maybe some of these actions WERE justified?

And until I hear the other side, cupcake, you'll forgive me if I remain skeptical of many of these "DAZ censors any negativity" claims.   ;)  I've seen what some users call "honest feedback" and "criticism" and I can tell you, any other forum would deal with them in the same way, including this one.

Some may be unjustified, it's possible, but it's not nearly what many of you are making it out to be.

BB, don't worry. I have never had anything deleted from their forum or had any notes or warning send to me EVER in almost 10 years and they banned me with the excuse they could ban anyone they wanted from their forums. :m_laugh:

I know you don't go looking for trouble Baggins, so I am also surprised that you received a note. I'll take a look, maybe it was just a disagreement about SSS settings or something in that Studio thread that got a little heated. Also keep in mind that whoever might have been disagreeing with you might have also received a similar note. DAZ isn't singling out Poser users.  :)

"they could ban anyone they wanted from their forums."

If I'm not mistaken, this is actually standard for almost all forums, a private site has its own rules and guidelines and you agree to those rules when you sign up. Renderosity could ban me this afternoon if they didn't like my username - they won't of course (for that reason anyway), and DAZ isn't going to ban anyone simply because they use Poser or a different figure. There is always a reason, whether it's fair or not and whether we think so is the question.

No legitimate reason has EVER been received, SnowSultan so I would welcome you staying out of other people's business. Thank you. I have been a member there since the forum started and they have never objected to anything before as silly as my username which is by the way totally normal and unoffensive so please stop casting doubt on what everyone says just because it goes against what you think.

I don't think I'm being unfair in saying that I doubt many of the claims that DAZ is ban-happy. I'm sorry that you were banned and it's entirely possible that it wasn't justified, but there's nothing wrong with people having very different opinions and defending their own beliefs.
