Subject: RDS 5 creased surface problem.

HI This has probably come up b4 and I missed it...but its really bugging me. Often when I have a smooth surface in RDS 5, if I export to poser or bryce it looks creased. Any ideas? -LW

You'll probably want to convert the object to a mesh (if it isn't already) by selecting the object and choosing edit/jump in another modeler. Once there you can select all of the vertices and use the subdivide command. This will smooth the object, but will also increase your file size. Also, it doesn't work very well on objects that are very small in one of their dimensions (like a dinner plate or most similarly flat objects). Hope that helps, Jim Z. a.k.a. Julian Boolean

There's also a "surface fidelity" function in the free-form modeller. Make sure it's set very high; otherwise, RDS uses fewer polygons (to speed rendering and moving around) and smooths the surface by cheating the shaders.... It's a nifty trick to get things moving faster, until you export the model out of the RDS environment. - Dex

Hey..I figuredd out a workaround. I was making thin walls with window cutouts thatwould always crease once I "added Thickness" Ive discovered after you add thickness, detach the 2 sides of the wall...they still look connected in renders, but there is no more crease...YAY!! -LW
