Subject: HALP! PP2012's SR1 ate all my prefs...

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 28 December 2011 at 4:39 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 5:43 AM

I positively KNOW I checked the backup preference files or whatever it was called when I installed SR1 - yet everything is GONE :(

Poser now starts with Andy in the scene (easy to get rid of though) but it also removed all my render presets and all my carefully imported runtimes (which are stored all over the place so it take ages to dig them all up again)

IS there any way to get them back? Did Poser make a backup or and I SOL? Where's that back up if it 's there?

:( I MISS my render settings :( They'd taken a long time to perfect :(

That's what the back-up option does... ;-)

Unfortunately, the Poser SR1 read me does not say, where to find the back up files.
But I am sure, they are there.

Try doing a search for LibraryPrefs and look at the file location.
They may have been moved to a specific back-up folder somewhere close by.

If you can't find them, then there is no way of getting them back, short of a system restore...
(if you did a system store prior to installing the SR)

Ah good idea :) I'll try that. And no, I didn't do a System Restore point. Stupid me :(

SM told me I had to add all my runtimes back 1 by 1. So I did. And it blew.

I never set system restore points either...

But I do make daily back-ups of my documents and settings folder, as well as some program folders that get changed a lot.

You can do this quite easily using windows own back-up tools.
This did prevent me from loosing all my bookmarks, emails, etc. more than once :D

I was very careful. And nearly everything worked out OK. Most of my preferences were taken into the new version. Lighting has gone completely up the spout for many previously saved scenes and needs to be redone. Rendering takes longer, unless you check the use outside process business.

Nevertheless, a BRILLIANT update and you have to do it!

Switching from "Render" to "Preview" now takes a second and not six minutes!

It's not perfect but it's getting there...

Well I thought I was careful, too. But my prefs are still gone. I found some older render presets scattered all over the computer when I did a search. But none of them were my newest ones I'd made specifically for PP2012 :(

OK.. anyone got some good render settings they'd like to share then?

What OS are we talking about TG? Vista? Win 7? Mac OS 10? It would help get you an answer if we knew what OS you were running. I always tell Poser SR's to use my existing preferences, but I'm fairly certain that the backups it creates are in the same directory as the active LibraryPrefs.xml.

I found mine in:

C:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamingPoser Pro2.0

Yeah it ate mine too, even after I said save them...bleah...I had to reimport V4 and re-add the 45 million morphs I like to load her with.  I stayed up until 2 am getting it all imported and then S1 just ate it.  However, it did make my runtime be in alphabetical order (mine isn't that large....only about 20 gigs with a runtime for each thing....).

Does anyone else have problems with when you go to do something your version saying not responding in the top next to the program name?  It always responds, but it keeps saying it isn't while it's loading.  Just wondering...it's just a little annoying is all :)

I also chose "back up preferences", but I found them. They were in

C:/Users/MyUserName/AppData/Roaming/Poser Pro/9_2011_12_13 7_21_55 PM

I copied  LibraryPrefs.xml and the other files into the folder

C:/Users/MyUserName/AppData/Roaming/Poser Pro/9

and it all worked again. I did make a back up though of the contents in the "9" folder as I didn't really know what I was doing. :)

This is on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

i think render settings are saved in the .pz3s.  open a recent pz3 file, maybe?, and you can save your setting from there?

I had read the other thread on this and did the SR1 update very slowly, reading everything before I clicked on it and got everything back the way it was before.  I did not check "back up" the preferences, but checked the "use" the existing preferences and that will keep everything as you had it before.
