Subject: new hair style for whom?

I'm going to be starting some new dynamic hair soon and was trying to decide who make it for. That is a style for a preschool aged girl. Which child would you be interested in seeing new hair for? I have Penny, Maddie, PS Vicky, and K4. Or I could make it for the P4 baby, Mill baby or Mill baby3.

I use Maddie most of all those figures. Hair converts easily, so it doesn't matter that much.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Nothing to check, i think you have better result by working on the prop hair shader instead working on the dynamic hair who are a real nightmare.

Well, this style I know I can do. Did the hard part by accident yesterday on Antonia but it's definatly a kid's style and there is so little hair for the kids so I though I'd do it again on a kid sized skull cap and figured I'd offer it as a freebie. I just wanted to know who to make it for that people would use.

I know there wasn't much interest in this but for anyone who might have cared I did finish the hair and it's for Maddie. It's called Meggie tails and is available at sharecg.

How did you do that! Wow! You should write a tutorial, I can do basic stuff but the more advanced styling I has not figured out yet because there are very little advanced tutorials (atleast from what I've found)... I would even pay for a tutorial on it :)

GOOD JOB :)

rokket ( ) posted Mon, 02 January 2012 at 1:28 AM

Holy COW! I need to know how to do that too... I was asked to create Harley Quinn, and I need to know how to make the pigtails to pull off the look... wow. That looks so good.

Well, to get hair that styles this well, you need a good conditioner.

Seriously I used a script that Cage wrote. I'll get you a link to it once the server is back up. They are doing mainanence. You can also check the loop script link at the bottom of his posts. The script is a work in progress but what you need for pigtails works.

I'll post a tut later, gotta get to work now.

I'd love a tutorial, too.

That hair looks great!  :woot:

I'll get back to developing the hair script some more pretty soon, hopefully.  Poser Place has been keeping me busy for awhile.   😊  I'll get back to it, though.

ok here's the tut in 35 easy steps (sorry I don't know how to do short tuts)

Let me start by saying, I am used to writing instructions for the computer illiterate so if I seem too basic at times forgive me. If I’m too advanced ask questions.

  1. Load the figure.

  2. Load the skull cap for the figure.

  3. Go to the hair room.

  4. Create a new hair growth group.

  5. Name it bangs (if you want bangs)

  6. Using the grouping tool, select about 3 rows of faces for the bangs. I find it easiest to see if I use the hidden line display style and hide the other objects in the group editor window

  7. Grow hair guides. They may not show up if the hide other objects is selected. That’s fine we don’t need to see it yet.

  8. Add growth groups for the left including all faces that you want going to the left pigtail and grow the hairs.

  9. Add right and back groups. Overlap the groups if you don’t want much of the skullcap to show in the part.

  10. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to include the back in with the pigtails, I’ll have to experiment and post that later.

  11. Go back to the pose room. (I don’t know that this is necessary but I have had problems when I’ve entered the hair room with the script running)

  12. You might want to have the hierarchy editor open. It helps with selecting the markers.

  13. Make sure the skull cap is selected.

  14. Run the hair to path script.

  15. Add several hair markers. I used 9. Whatever you need to make the curve you want.

16 These are little + shapes at position 0,0,0 so if you are on the face cam you won’t see them.

  1. Parent all the markers to hair_marker_0 (you don’t have to do this but it makes it easier to move them)

  2. Move the hair makers up near where the head is.

  3. Position the hair markers in a curving line down keeping the markers in order and have the last marker in the position of where you want the base of the pigtail to be. You can hide the hair groups while positioning markers but show the one you’re working with before running script.

  4. Select the hair group for that pigtail in the select group column.

  5. Click run script.

  6. Rotate the hair_marker_0 180 degrees on the y axis. And move it so the last marker is where you want the other pigtail base to be. This is where having the markers parented together comes in handy.

  7. Select the other group for the other side. Make sure it’s visible.

  8. Hit run script again.

24. For the bangs rotate the hair_marker_0 to 90 degrees on the y axis.
  1. Change hair length to .02 and select use hair length entry

  2. Select bangs group

  3. Run script again

  4. If bangs are too curled or too straight, adjust the hair_markers

  5. For the back turn the hair marker to 270 degrees on the y axis.

  6. Select the back and run script again.

  7. Close the script.

  8. Go back into the hair room

  9. On the skullcap add a hair group of one face where all the hairs for each pigtail converge. You might have to experiment to get it in the right spot.

  10. Grow hair guides.

  11. Adjust the styling controls and growth controls for the pigtails. I included the setting I used.

  12. Adjust the hair density for all groups. Don’t change the growth controls for any group you used the script on. They will cancel out the script changes. You can change the style groups, the dynamic setting or use the styling tools without canceling out the script.

Have fun!

Cage did you know you can save the markers as props and load them into new scenes?

I did not, but it makes sense.  They would be standard Poser props.  If you save a group of them and load them back, what happens to all of "point at" setup?

Stays the same. The only thing that changes is marker 0 changes to 9. I've never tried it to see what happens. Always rename it.

RedPhantom, what script version are you using?  I'd like to post the script here, but my files turn out to be in disarray and if I can't access the site to see which one I have active, I may accidentally post an experimental version which isn't ready for public release.  :scared:

I think was using the expiramental one that's not ready for release. You had emailed it to me to try out. It was hair to prop6d. It was the one that created the selection boxes. Hair to prop 6c works in p12. And can do everything in the tut at least.

Shoot... I am still using Poser 8.... I am guessing that some of the things you did can't be done in Poser 8. I need to upgrade as soon as I can get some spare cash together.

The original  script was written before the latest upgrades and worked in p8. I don't remember what version was the last for p8 or if the new versions are backwards compatible. The only thing I know about scripts is that you can do some really cool stuff with them. Until Cage has a chance to find and post the current script, You can get an earlier one here. It is the 6a version. It should work in P8 but I don't think it will work in P9. I don't know how stable it is so save often.

Okay, my site is back up.  The most recently-posted version is 6c, which will work in P9, P8, and P7 (as well as Pro versions corresponding to any of those), but I don't think it's been tested in P5 or P6.  I've been trying to keep the loop script compatible across the most recent version of Poser and I don't plan to drop support for older Poser versions with these scripts.

Now I know I have at least four versions beyond 6c on my system, but I have no idea now which of them may or may not work, or how they're different from 6c or one another.  :scared:   I set something aside for a few months and I forget everything!   😊

I love this hair and the other you created but I am in Poser7 and greatly lacking in skills of a general nature let alone trying to make sense of the tutorials i have already tried to use for more complex P7 functions especially the hair and cloth room stuff.

my question is can dynamic hair be converted to a prop to use in P7?

I love the pigtails and would love to use them but I know I won't be able to figure out how to use them as dynamic hair.  :(

RedPhantom ( ) posted Tue, 04 September 2012 at 2:37 PM

Dynamic hair should be able to be used in any version of poser 5 and up. Mine might say it was made in a later version but it still should load. Stranded hair can't be converted to a prop as you'll lose the strands.

Using dynamic hair isn't that hard. This particular style doesn't really even need to be draped. just load it and reposition it if your not using it on Maddie. I once knew a little girl with this hair and it almost never moved. Other styles might need to be draped but once you have all the collisions checked that's not much left to do. I'll do a step by step later. My computer is acting up and needs a restart.

Ok here is a quich tute on how to use dynamic hair (please note i said use not make that isn't a quick tute)

1 load figure
2 load hair prop. It should be smart propped to figure already but if you are mixing and matching, you might need to adjust the fit.
3 pose figure. If it is an extreme pose, have the figure in default pose at frame 1 and pose the figure at frame 10
4 turn collisions on
5 set collision detection for each body part(only do the ones thar will definatly collide)
6 check do collitions for the hair part you are wanting to drape
7 click calculate dynamics
8 finish scene as normal and render

of course click the picture to enlarge
