Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
This site's adult oriented competitor's site's forum has an interesting approach to deal with flamewars in the forums; instead of locking a flamewar thread, it gets moved to a seperate forum called "The thunderdome" (after a warning as usual) where the rules (regarding being polite etc.) are a bit more relaxed than in the normal forums. So if one just is not in the mood for the "A is better than B"-fights, one just ignores this forum, but otherwise the fight can continue. The advantage of this approach over the locking-method is that there is usually only one thread for any given subject (because you do not have to start a new thread for "A is better than B" because the old one was locked) and i find it being slightly less aggressive than actually locking a thread. I do not actually know if this is what you (the moderators) need, but if you have not heard of it yet, you might consider this approach as an option.

There used to be something similar here, but lightweights would still join in, get bent out of shape and then run to the mods.
In short didn't work before, and won't be returning.

It is a good suggestion but It won't be done again. Thanks tho :)

The problem is that so many claim to know how to debate, but they really don't. Instead of arguing the words, they make personal attacks, which lends itself to such volley's back and forth, resulting in hurt feelings and locked threads.
Also people need to respect each others' points of view and realize that we are each entitled to them and that they aren't wrong just because they don't reflect our own. Agreeing to disagree is often a good thing.
In a nutshell, "Familiarity Breeds Contempt": the more we get to know one another on a personal level, the more likely we are to find fault with each other.
"It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi
In the past few months, I've seen a whole lot of locked threads, and it's not always obvious to me why they were locked or why others were not locked. Is there a list somewhere of forbidden or restricted topics we could consult?
Or is it that some truly horrible posts get deleted prior to a thread being locked, so a thread may look quite tame to those of us who can't see what was there prior to deletion, yet may appear like a war zone to the mods?

moriador - If threads have resulted in fighting and arguing we will lock the thread to make sure that no further arguing keeps going. The forum is a place to ask questions and talk with other members. We want the forum to be the friendly and a good place to visit.
Also, if a thread seems to go way off topic or goes towards something that we do not allow in the forum it will be locked.
If you see a thread you feel attention needs to be made to, please feel free to site mail myself or any staff member online. :)
Hope that answers your questions. If not, please let me know. :)

There's a few here that when I see there names I know the wars going to begin.
Some have tryed to provoke me ,If you think you can impress me buy putting some letters togather in a provoking way like some child barely out of diapers .
then ya got another thing coming.
I just picture a kid in diapers in a sand box & ignore them.

I do hate to see this, not what has been said but that is needs to be said at all, plus the fact that some good information is lost.
Case in point - I was really interested in the recent thread about the pros and cons of the new figure Dawn and it all started out so well. Part way through though it was clear just where it was heading and instead of being active in the thread I monitored it in the hope some interesting information would still be posted. The thread has now disappeared so I guess my prediction was correct, yet this is one case I hate being right. There was some good information there and I am sure more would have followed but for the actions of the few. Once again the many suffer because of the few.
I do support the moderators and understand that threads need to be locked but it makes me sad all the same...we share a hobby that gives so much pleasure to many in different ways, I just cannot understand why we cannot share the pleasure and leave the rest behind.
When it decends into personal attacks it seems we all lose not just the person being attacked.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

The moderators do have a impossible job.
We should help the moderators not hinder them.
If we let the trolls over run us then like you said we lose.
If they try to provoke you ignore them.
If they start a war ,Don't argue with them ,just tell them enough.
If we all banded together ,we could make this a troll free zone ,Seriously.

Is it on purpose that this thread ISN'T stickied? Just reprimand us and let it slide into oblivion? ;)
FWIW I basically agree BUT it's a slippery slope to have a discussion forum where certain meshes are taboo.
To me it seems odd that basically any discussion of Dawn's MESH is off limits... It doesn't help to endear her to those who has already decided not to like her. Now they can sit and fume and feel censored on top of it all.
Personally I really like Dawn. I like that she works in Poser. I use Poser. Hence, I use and frequent the POSER forum. :)
I kow there are certain people here who will immediately jump to defend specific meshes or specific companies. They amuse me, because their knee-jerk reaction is so predictable. you can almost start a count down from when someone said something "provocative" and until they jump in. But hey.. perhaps it would be an idea with an Ignore button here? So people could just ignore the people they always seem to argue with? Works elsewhere :) (I use another forum where the admins has put a few users on forced mutual ignore because those two people always just seem to fly at each other L and that's a cat forum LOL

If you don't like Daz.. get over it. Although this is the Poser forum, we welcome discussions about other software that can be used or paired with Poser. But, "mine is better than yours" is not tolerated. Don't bring that to this forum.
What will happen:
