Subject: Strange Failure when trying to have an embedded library in PP2012+Win7 64 bits

fabiana ( ) posted Tue, 17 January 2012 at 1:52 PM · edited Tue, 21 January 2025 at 6:46 PM

Hello people

This image shows the message I get when I launch the 32 bits of PP2012 that is installed in my Win 7 64 bits. I have installed both 32 and 64 bits applications of PP2012. I am pretty bored of the external library that doesn´t reflect the added thumbnails without closing and opening it again and again... so I wanted to use the embedded library but cannot get it working.

Any ideas?

I had this problem with Poser 8 when it was released.  There is a com port conflict.

ProudApache ( ) posted Tue, 17 January 2012 at 2:15 PM

I've had problems with PP2012 with the libraries not loading at all.  I ended up getting a program called PzDB and it's awesome.  It has the drag and drop feature and it works great.  I now set my preference in Poser to not having the Library to load up.  The Poser library is a mess.

In the tree view of the external library click on the right of the left panel and you will update the contents.

GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

Alexcoppo: Thanks, that was a good hint :)

ProudApache: thank you, where can I find that prog?

If that doesn't work, try updating your installed version of Adobe Flash.

I don't know how, specifically, to do it with ZA. You have to tell it that Poser is a program that is allowed to use the network. Not because it is, but because it uses internal network communication. Some people say ZA is fine, others say it mysteriously starts blocking Poser.

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?message_id=3820674&ebot_calc_page#message_3820674

At some point did it ask if Poser could access the Internet, and you said no? Well, that also means it can't talk to itself. Lots of firewalls block all use of TCP/IP, even if it is not addressed to an Internet site.

There will be something in there listing programs that are exceptions to the firewall blocking of communication.

Fabiana, honestly, it's simple.

Go to Adobe and download the Flosh player for INTERNET EXPLORER.

If you use any other browser, it won't matter.

The Poser library requires Flash Player for Internet Explorer.

The error message in the original post is being shown by the Flash application - she has the Flash player. (I wrote this program - the particular dialog translates to "I am not allowed to talk")

Oh, well good.  Now I can curse the developer by name.  I despise this library.  Hate.  It.  Screwed up my Firefox, hate IE, never touch the useless piece of malware.

Yeah, I have real strong feelings about the Poser library interface.  Ruins a perfectly good application.

I use Comodo firewall, allowed it thru and I haven't had a problem. Not one. In fact I've only had ONE problem with the library and that was because a file was corrupted when I had Poser open and the power went out - the fault of no one. Otherwise, it's worked fine, just like everything else in Poser (except the broken IDL, but I won't go there...lol). I feel like that was totally uncalled for Glitterati. That's the type of shit you take to private email.

@Glitterati3D

I'm fine with that. SM wanted an implementation that has goals beyond just Poser, multi-app multi-platform, one implementation.

They could have done several implementations instead, but that would raise the price of several products.

My suggestion, since you pretty much saved about $30 due to this decision, is go buy one of the several other library managers for Poser. Many people are happy with those.

PS- Out of curiosity, how much do you think it costs to get a developer to build something like this. Don't use Poser content as your metric - it wasn't $20/hour.

To sum up, install/update Flash doing the procedure thru the Internet Explorer (otherwise you will update Firefox or whatever) and, before using Poser, bring IE online.

This situation is not pleasant but the alternative (using a certain other application) is far less palatable.

P.S.: also Google Earth pretends to have IE online.

Have a look at this Fabi. You can add Poser to your trusted list of programs and then it should run fine for you :). I wish I could help you directly, but I don't use ZoneAlarm. I use Comodo.

Add trusted program to ZoneAlarm

Oh, I did replace the library.  ASAP.

I hate the Poser Library manager.

Laurie, sorry you think honesty is a barrier crossed.  I don't.

Internet Explorer is an insecure piece of malware.  I don't use it for a reason and it's called security.  And, any company which forces me to use that garbage deserves a piece of my mind.

Shutting up now.

I do not understand this.
What is happening with people?

I test Poser on 6 different machines, from XP 32 to Windows 7 64 bit.

I NEVER- EVER had a problem with the Library, and have seen it improving in functionality and usability over the years

But???
Ladies and Gentlemen?
All my PC's are standard configuration.

Work with the Industry Standards and you will rarely have a problem.

Most trouble I have seen here in forums is when users think they know better than the manufacturers. Start messing around with other browsers, other anti-virus progs, other firewalls etc... Hey, do not blame the pianist then.

Do a standard default OS installation.
Clean everything out with Ccleaner and Iobit Advanced System Care free.
Use Windows Security Essentials on all machines.

Do a dafault Poser installation, and allow acces in the Windows firewall.

Never-ever had a virus that slipped in.
Allways had a fully functioning Poser and library from the start.

But????
Ladies and Gentlemen?
Stay on the safe side of the net.

And follow the Standards.
They are there for a reason.

And, did I mention it?
Clean your system.

Oh, sorry I forgot:
Clean your system.

I think I missed a step or 2

  • Stick to the standard
  • Clean your system.

Happy Posering,
Tony

I shouldn't have to remind you all that if you feel the need to fight or debate something with another person, please do not do it in the forum. Take it to site mail.

Bagginsbill and Laurie: Sorry for always being late here, but thanks to your high valuable help I have been able to solve my troubles. Yes, was the silly firewall doing the trick. But in my defense (:P) I will say that wasn´t distraction... I did all the installations on my new main pc meantime I was fighting Poser in another :) so something could got missed, for sure.

So well, the poor one clicked something but we found easily what to change and all is ok now.

Glitterati and others: thank you for the always important inputs... all them made me interesting ideas for the future if I have other troubles... hope not!

Vilters: you have some point with the standards and the cleaning. I must say both concepts are good and I should remember them often :) Promise to do that.
