Subject: poser on a laptop

just a couple of questions about running poser 2010 on a laptop need to free up some time on my main pc so bought a laptop to render on quad core i7 , 8gb ram 1Tb hard drive this is a bit higher than my main pc so should be ok to render on ?

next if i just copy my runtime folder to the laptops poser runtime , will that work or will i have to install everything all over again?

finally if I have created a poser scene on my pc and load the poser file on the laptop assuming all the files used are on the laptop, will poser know where to find everything or will I get endless pop ups asking where all the files are ?

My laptop is similar in specs, and I've encountered no problems.  As for the runtimes...if the runtime is in the poser install directory, and your working with poser 5,6 or 7 the you can zip up the entire program and move it over to your laptop.  Poser 8 and and up needs to be re- installed.  At least that's the way it worked for me, but I'm no expert.

I do the laptop thing here, and it works just fine w/o troubles. Yes, you can copy the runtime over whole and it'll work just fine. The only thing I'dadd is to make sure you have a decent OpenGL-capable video card (NVIDIA, ATI... Intel's video chips suck mud still).

My own specs are as follows:

Model: Samsung RC512-S2

Core i7 2630QM

8GB DDR3 RAM (it came with 6, and I bumped it).

NVIDIA 525M Video card

750GB HDD

Multi-touch trackpad, 15.6" screen (1366x768)

Windows 7 x64 (though this is usbject to change).

oh ok thanks, how is the video card? getting a better vid card will make renders faster right? or is it all cpu based?

The better video card doesn't much of anything for the actual renders (unless you're using an OpenGL-based render), but it does help make the user interface (esp. the preview window) move a lot more smoothly.

I use Poser 5 (yes 5) on my Dell laptop but it's an older version of Poser and I gut it out to save space I dont use the Poser figures anyway. Then again, I don't do too much anymore except small animations. I have used Poser and the new Daz Studio I have them both on my laptop. Never any problems.

Dajadues ( ) posted Thu, 19 January 2012 at 7:49 PM

although for quick renders I use Daz Studio, the new versions is super fast, for a quick render I can get under ten mins tops. Poser take slonger, 20 mins depending.
