Subject: Outrageous

The marketplace removes objects from availability and then continues to sell textures and add-ons for the objects that are no longer available.  The bought add-ons are useless.

A rip-off for newbies like me who didn't know any better.

Would only be a "rip-off" if you aren't able to obtain a refund for an item in the specified circumstances (a good store won't hesitate to do so). Removing add-ons just because the required item becomes unavailable would be unfair to those that do have it, and to the creators of the add-on.

True, but if it's an addon product for an item that is no longer available, once the base item goes away, some note of it should be made on the addon items page denoting that it can't be used unless such and such is owned etc...if I'm not mistaken other places do this, and in fact I thought Rendo did as well. I know the MP here used to tell ya that a,b,c was needed when buying an addon product.

I don't mean to start an argument, but why would you buy an add-on before buying the original product? If you can't find the original product in the store, then that should be a sign not to buy the add-on.

But like nruddock said, the add-on is still useful to people who already bought the original item before it was removed.

If you like an add on but cannot find the base product, you should contact the vendor to see if there is another way you can purchase the base product as they could have removed the base product from here and decided to sell it somewhere else but kept the add on here.

So the base product very well still may be available but just not through here at Renderosity.

I can sympathize with solodon.  When I first started buying content I ran into the base product requirement.  Some of the texture artist work is so good that they're actually beautiful.  In some cases it made me re-evaluate the base product, and the purchase was made based on the texture artists work. solodon could have very well requested a refund.

For new users, there should be some sort of introduction when they activate their account.  Some sites even list a placeholder indicating compatibility with a product not provided by the site (especially for Photoshop stuff).

After buying content for several years, I'm glad they still sell textures for discontinued products, especially for AerySoul.
