Subject: Customizing the Bryce interface (tutoria)

IO4 ( ) posted Fri, 20 January 2012 at 12:33 AM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 1:52 PM

Hi everyone, I've just put together a short tutorial about how you can customize the Bryce interface. It's aimed at the less experienced Bryce user who may not be aware of what you can do with the palettes (unless you've trawled throught the manual...) and background colour. In much older versions of Bryce it seems that you could hide palettes, but this is not so in Bryce 6 & 7. So the functionality is limited in terms of what you can do

The text version is here:

If you prefer video tutorials it's on the same site here:

or at YouTube:

I hope  someone might  find the tutorial useful.

They are "stacked" on top of each other, side to side and top etc, just hold down the space bar and drag the menu to where you want it, if you have multiple/mirrored monitors you can put your menus in the other screen as well.

as far as hiding them, not so much, as far as changing the actual bryce interface colors, nope, it was proposed once and never implemented, hopefully soon here we'll get some of the really old things worked out.

Ah yes, of course you can do it that way, but what I was referring to was that in older versions (pre V6) you could hide them by key commands - this was removed and documented as such in the B6 manual.

Well, I've tried  out and the key commands that used to work and they don't work...here's what the DAZ 6 manual says under Known Issues:

  1. Display or Hide Palettes: Since the palettes are no longer hidden in Bryce so that mousing over them makes them visible, some of the display/hide functions no longer work. See below for the listing of which functions are affected:
    1. Ctrl+4 - Control palette. Affected versions: Bryce 4, 5, 5.5, 6, and 6.1.
  2. Ctrl+6 - Advanced Display palette. Affected versions: Bryce 4, 5, 5.5, 6, and 6.1.
  3. Ctrl+Tab - Display or Hide all palettes. Affected versions: PC Bryce 5, 5.5, 6, and 6.1.
  4. Hide Interface: Ctrl+Tab to hide/display all palettes. Does not work on the PC. Affected versions: PC Bryce 4, 5, 5.5, 6, and 6.1.

(The Bryce 7 manual doesn't give any information about hiding palettes)

Unless they work in a Mac still ? I only have a PC.

Ctrl+tab to hide still works on the Mac, and "should" on the PC as well just tried it here on 3 different puters, the other key functions might have been effected with the new coding going on, there have been issues for sure during testing and since the old versions.

LOL just noticed ctrl+2,3 keys work to switch, so yeahhhh gonna say that's a bug that needs reported if it hasn't been already, I'll get it sent up the line.

With the long list of issues still outstanding and it listed as a known issue for years, I can't see that it'll get much attention..but submit a report by all means. Iv'e already submitted a bug for the fact that the pallette size (width) when moved as shown in the B7 manual does not reflect the width when actually moved in B7 - it would be better to have it the size shown in the B7 manual.

Oh for sure, Also something you might need to know is that I work on Bryce and know everyone who created Bryce, so I'll get the issue sent up the line to the programmers that need the correct information on this issue, lottsa bugs are there when you are rebuilding old code, new stuff breaks old stuff kinda thing. And the Programmers do read these threads as well to stay informed to new issues not posted to the bug tracker. So its all good:-)

Clay, are you implying Bryce is currently being re-written?

clay ( ) posted Sun, 22 January 2012 at 9:13 PM

It has been partially with version 7, its implementing new with old and getting it all to play together nicely that is the issue, for right now Bryce is on hold until Daz gets a few things done and out the door, then they will resume work on Bryce, when we have no idea as of yet but hopefully this summer.
