I recently posted this image to my gallery here done in the Carrara 8.5 Beta with a Genesis figure. I got a question about Genesis in Carrara, and thought it might be best to post an answer here where more people might benefit from the answer.

The current version of the Carrara 8.5 Beta has pretty good support for Genesis, but you do need the most recent version of DS4 installed to use Genesis (they are working on removing the need for DS4 installation). Support for Genesis isn't perfect yet, but it is usable in it's current state.

I "created" the character in  DS4A. It's a hybrid of V5 at full strength, with a little Genesis Female, V4, G4, Riley, Princess, Joey, and a combination of the fitness/body builder/definition morphs. It's really amazing how easy it is to combine different figures with Genesis, and add your own customization.

To get the character into Carrara, I saved/exported the morphs to a DSF file (morphs and textures), then opened the file in Carrara, and I had an exact duplicate of the charater I created in DS4, except for shaders of course. One of the things you need to be aware of with this build of C ..... once you morph Genesis, or auto fit cloths to Genesis, you can't apply mat poses to change materials. But if you save the character/materials as a DSF from DS4 with the proper mats applied, they will come accross to Carrara - But......you'll need to manually fix the materials in the DSF file (ASCII text file). It's a fairly straight forward and easy process. In the materials portion of the file replace the generic referece of material1, material2, material3, etc. with the proper material name that you see a little after the material reference.

Right now, it's much easier to work with all the Genesis morphs in DS4. Carrara's interface hasn't been modified to categorize them in any way. It's much easier to find them in DS, but they all seem to work properly in Carrara.

You can see the full sized version of this render, and a render of the original DS4 WIP character in my gallery (link provided). Give Genesis a test drive, it's really amazing!

Great one. Yes they are working in a new file format to load poses, materials and other things at this time, not only for Carrara but for DS too. I hope they get this done soon.

Yep, I think that DSF will be a big plus for DS and Carrara. It will be very easy to modify parameters through editing the DSF file. One of the obvious applications would be to change texture maps using find and replace. I can see a lot of possibilities for the format, and it will enable easy parameter modification by anyone who wants/needs to make a few changes.
