Comparisons are often asked about here. I always point to the comparison chart at E-On's site - it gives a complete at a glance difference between products.Gill
Good questions - in excellent English!
First, be aware that the primary purpose of Vue is to create natural outdoor environments. Vue has almost no model-building ability, so you must either use another program for 3D model-building or rely on purchases of models and free models. (This includes characters - you cannot build characters in Vue.)
City Engine is more advanced than you need. If you are interested in obtaining buildings, consider Sketchup (you will need a version of Vue that allows you to import models in the *.obj file formats at a minimum). If you wish to build your own buildings, Sketchup also is an excellent choice for a beginner. Truespace is another excellent free 3d model-building program that would allow you to make your own models of buildings, and of organic objects.
Some would argue that Vue can be used for modeling objects using Boolean tools. I won't though.

You would if you saw what Barry Marshall's been doing recently Shawn
There's a Vue group on Facebook and he's been posting some amazing stuff there recently

I remember asking these same questions.
As was said earlier Vue is for creating environments to place the characters and objects in.
The objects and characters are created in other software and that's where it gets complex.
If your an artist like I was, what you want to do is create everything yourself?
First you have modeling programs that only do modeling and then you have complete packages that will do most anything. Many programs are free, but the ones you buy are far better but expensive.
Blender is free and it's a full package and very capable. I hate it but some like it.
Wings 3D is a free and very capable modeler.
Daz3D has software to do anything that are popular with hobbyists and artists that are a lot cheaper than the programs used in the industry. Carrara is a full package for instance.
Poser and Daz Studio are for posing characters before sending them to Vue to render in a scene. There are a lot of models you can buy compatable with them that are already rigged to be posed.
If you want to create your own, after building the model you also have to learn to create the UV maps and textures to apply to them. There are also bump maps, displacement maps and normal maps among others. The process is quite time consuming by the time you rig a model for posing and animation.
I use-
Lightwave (a complete professional package)
Vue 10 Infinite
Silo (a simple organic modeling program I use to make base meshes)
ZBrush (the state of the art in creating organic models with high details where you can also create all maps and paint the models) If you are an artist this is a program for artists and if I had to give up all but one program, I'd keep ZBrush. You should go to -zbrushcentral.com- and have a look. The best artists in the 3D world post there.
Most of all have fun, but expect to spend money if your serious and spend lots of time learning.

Hy Guys, sorry for the kind of post, but I don't really know where to ask...
I am from italy (so forgive my english) I am a drawer and a modeler since I was 8 years old and thanks to a website I started to make research on 3D design. I found out that there is a lot of information and material on the web but very little "orientation for beginners". There are of course tutorials but I am looking more for some basic info. Ok so I kinda decided to go for Vue10. Now my questions are:
What are the main differences between Vue 10 Frontier and Vue 10 Complete? (like is Vue 10 Frontier alone enough for an amateur or would I end up needing so many extras that it would be better to get the complete version at first)
Does Vue10 allow you to create single characters or would you use DAZ 4 for that? What about bigger populations?
Is Vue 10 (complete or frontier) enough for buildings and cities or would I need the Cityengine?
Thanks for your time! I would really need some basic directions because they are hard to find and I don't want to make the wrong investments due to my ignorance
Thanks again!!!
