THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Reading Bryce 3 files in Bryce 7.1

Jack Casement ( ) posted Fri, 03 February 2012 at 2:06 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 1:40 PM

In my previous life when I was using Bryce 3, I saved all my images in BR3 format.  So I was disappointed when I tried to open these old files in Bryce 7.1 only to discover it wouldn't happen.  Is this possible or have I lost all my files forever?

File, Open & then click on Files of Type & select Bryce3. Haven't actually tried this, but since the option is there, I assume it works...

Eyeland.  Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work

Jack - Just found some old BR3 files & tested it & it works for me. When you first open the file, you just see a blank white canvas. Hit ESC & you'll see the wireframe view of your objects or hit the render button & it will render the scene for you...

eyeland thank you sooooo much.  That worked perfectly.  What a relief to know that all my old files weren't lost forever.

or.... chose all files isntead of bryce 3..and you'll see the bryce file on the list.. click on that..and it will open up.

jack.. rule of thumb for any software..later versions can open older version files..but early versions cannot open newer versions. thus.. bryce 3 cannot open a bryce 7 file, but bryce 7 can open a bryce 3 file. that's how it goes with every software..including ms office. otherwise..everyone would inudate the software company with curses if older files cannot open up!

cheers and happy brycing..

erosiaart.  It does make sense what you are saying about backward compatibility.  I am just so pleased to have recovered these files,  My intention is to re-save them all as Bryce 7 files.

It's also quite nice to add the newer lighting abilities of Bryce7 to older bryce scenes, (in my case br5 since I lost all my older files.) seeing older scenes with IBL for instance can be fantastic.
