Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
There won't be a release date until there is an official notice, so please don't ask, it will be sometime in the near future. Let's just say as well that there has been some great work done by the programmers of the Poser Place Crew.
This is my V4WM Pixie in the WM versions of the Chain top and skirt from RDNA. Took less than a minute to convert both, both conformed perfectly the first time, no poke through, no post work. What you see is what I rendered and nothing else.
All the best.

Earlier I had inquired about how her shoulder and thigh areas looked in certain poses. I did a side-by-side comparison in case anyone is interested.
On the left is V4-WM versus V4 on the right. The black arrow points to the shoulder area which looks wrong on the default V4 when the arm is bent down and to the back. The red arrow indicates the lack of "bubble-butt" when V4-WM's thigh is bent forward. In addition the buttock looks more natural on V4-WM than on V4.

V4-WM is on the left and V4 is on the right. The black arrow points out the deformation on the back of V4's shoulder (compared to V4-WM) when the arm is posed in this fashion.
First I want to repeat: i am a fan. However, there is a problem. It is the V3-ish "bent drinking straw" effect. While in so many other ways WM is a gloriously welcome improvment, on this point the tendancy to mis-shape at arond 75 Degree bend has been amplified.
It effects both the elbow and knee. You can see it in the animation I posted a few posts back.
::::: Opera :::::
one of the really wonderful things about the V4WM is everyone will have the same V4WM. Which means new clothes might be specifically made for her. Yes I see that people can convert, but it will still be nice to buy new content that is made for her too in the future.
But people are being encouraged to weight map their own figures eg M4, and my concern is that we might lose this great advantage of all having the same figure. Just because people might be interested in doing a bit of weight mapping doesn't mean they will want to make and texture their own clothes.

I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Well, perhaps one particular re-rigged / weightmapped M4 might possibly stand out from the rest.
Nobody gets this concept. This is a test:

There is also the matter of distribution to consider. Do you really think that scripters abound to write the code that Cage did for ALL the variants of M4 weight-mapped out there? And that if they were to come from Cage's pen, they would have to meet PP criteria: we use NOTHING of Daz (unlike other scripts out there). Not too many are keen to tackle rigging a figure. Weightmapping? sure. But re-rigging?
Rest assured, Esther, your issue is a storm in a tea-cup.

good. Because I really like the look of the V4WM and hope for similar M4 and K4, F4 and a tony.
Yes i know it's the rigging as well as the weight mapping.

Could we please have bug/imperfection reports posted (with pictures) to THIS THREAD at PoserPlace? That way Diogenes/Phantom3D will have access to them.
With the clothes conversion utility presently under development, there may be no need to model exclusively for V4~WM. Vendors should be able to provide compatibility for
V4.2 and V4~WM in the same product, or even provide easy updates for all of their V4.2 clothes. The users should also be able to do this for themselves on products they already have.
M4 is a stickier problem. The amount of work needed to re-rig and weight-map a figure following DAZ3D's restrictions to the letter is emourmous. Nothing from the DAZ figure can be retained. This means the process will take time, no matter who does it. But, we are trying to get a way forward on this.

Meanwhile the convertor is coming along fine.
Another one that needed nothing changed, worked perfect first time!!!
All the best.

Phantom3D has your problems on the list to be delt with. Thanks so much for stoping by PoserPlace to leave that message. We are very committed to getting V4~WM as functional as possible. We would be honored if you would post some renders in our galleries.

I guess I owe people an apology for being so militantly pro-open-source, pro-make-it-yourself, contra-MassProducedByACompanyIsAlwaysBest. What you have in your runtimes now is proof-positive (V4-Wm) that people on their own with a vision can accomplish so much more than some organisation with tons of resources and with a clear financial objective.
I'm typing from within Ubuntu-Linux, Cinnamon desktop. Everything is reliable and fast. I have brilliant access to the internet, Firefox with NO lag, ever, heaps of productivity apps, can play with wxPython... the list goes on.
Am I limited? Yes. Poser. That I have to run in Windows: WINE or virtual OSes just aren't there yet.
But for something that is free, sheesh, not doing bad, is it?
V4-WM and Antonia before her are the results of visions of their creators. That vision lives on as clothing converters are being developed and now weightmapped classes as being conducted... it's about spreading that vision, getting people involved. It's not about creating some static end-product: V4-Wm and everything being created at PoserPlace is alive and breathing and dynamic and improving... because WE are involved. We make the difference. This is why Phantom3D is giving courses on rigging and weightmapping: so that WE can learn it all too, thus ensuring that Poser's technology shines ever more brightly.

Just to be clear, we can only lay claim to the "-WM" part of "V4-WM". V4 proper is a product of DAZ and no one is making any claim on their property. V4-WM is an add-on freebie for V4, but one created as a team effort and released in an open manner. All of the normal DAZ restrictions still apply to the V4 part of V4-WM. Which is to say, the geometry and any elements of the original V4 .cr2 which are merged into the V4-WM .cr2 when the figure is generated, these remain the intellectual property of DAZ. If V4-WM or a character for V4-WM is redistributed, the same care needs to be taken with the distribution as would normally be taken when dealing with regular V4 or other DAZ figures.
Everyone probably knew that already, but it sort of seems like one should be careful about pointing this sort of thing out.
Sorry to barge in, Robyn.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking. He apologizes for this. He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.
Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below. His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.
Very good point, Cage. I was of course referring to the WM side of things. Thanks for clarifying that, Cage.

Quote - Just one question, do I have to run the script every time when I open Poser Pro 2012 or do I do it once and from then on she will load weight mapped?
I am very new to all this , not even got round to SSS.
Thank you
Rainy
Follow the instructions and start with a blank screen and when done with all the steps save the figure off to the figures-character libraary and name how you see fit. Then you just reload that saved off figure and it will have the weigh maps in it and no need to run the program again everytime you want to use a V4 with Weight Maps

Did anyone try applying some of the available fixes to the WM'ed V4?
Just like
"REALArms" ( http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=91105) or "Pretty Legs" (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/v4-pretty-legs/89458) ?
I'm curious about the effect(s), these fixes provide. Making things even better, or worse?

Did you mean like for the elbow and knee issue? If so, that's a good question.
I went over to Poser Palace and notifed them of the elbow issue as I think others have also. I thought I saw something that said they were working it, so I thought to just wait a while before looking into other fixes.

Patience grasshopper...lol. They know about the knee and elbow issue. Of course if you see something you can always drop by and say something in the forums there so they know for sure.

I think I can safely say, "Help is on the way!"
But I can't say much more than that. There is a thread at Poser Place for V4 problems or bug reports, and all issues reported there (and elsewhere, including here) are receiving attention.

Quote - V4-WM, PP2010, is there a point of me even trying to use this, or is this strickly the 2012 club upgrade to Vicky... for that matter, ANY of the WM chars have a use in PP2010?
thanks,
V
No, at least Poser 9 for enjoying the benefits of weight maps, Poser 2012 if you want to make your own weight mapping to a figure.

:Sigh:
Navigates to download folder... Delete, delete, delete, delete... this could take a while...
Considering that I "JUST" upgraded to PP2010, it will be a few months/years before PP2012 is within the budget...
:Sigh:
Thanks,

Vially - Yes, PP 2012 or DS 4 is required for any weight mapped figure in this community. The point of these figures is taking full advantage of the latest features available to them. Conversely, if you don't feel like you need PP 2012 yet, you don't need a weight mapped figure, since weight mapping is one of the major improvements available in that generation of Poser. The same is true for materials with true SSS. This is all part of the features that you have to weigh against the cost of purchasing either new software, new content, or both.
This isn't an exclusive "club," so don't feel left out. I'm probably making more of this than necessary, but I know there's often backlash to the popularity of new tech in this community, and it seems to be based on the idea that the people using it and posting about it are trying to say people have to embrace the new technology. And some advocates of certain technologies come very close to doing so. The group behind V4 WM, Antonia WM, and Antonia Standard has never done this. All they have done is advocate for people in the community doing their own thing, in their own way, and not being hindered on anyone else's decisions to do it.
Yes, in this case, what they have done and what they've taught about involves PP 2012 technology, because that's the technology they use and enjoy using. And my guess is that they will continue to use PP 2012 tech, until something more powerful comes along. But not because there's any push for exclusivity. New figures are coming out, and from what many of their developers are saying, more than one will have a standard and a weight mapped version. Antonia Standard showed just how much can be done for bending even without weight mapping. And it's not as if the group behind these projects are the only ones who can do creative work.
As awesome and amazing as the talent, focus, and skill of the people behind this project are, it's not as if they have some superhuman abililties, or even (for some of them I know) an incredible amount of spare time. They only got support from major entities after they did their work. The point of this project isn't that only they can do work like this, or that only weight mapping matters. It's that all of us in the community are only bound by what we decide to do and what we want to create.
So don't feel bad about not having PP 2012 yet. Just make the most of what you have now, and focus on making the works you want and sharing what you're doing with others. Because you never know who might be inspired to join you in what you're doing.
Hi Kobalt -
Didn't mean anything by "club" other than 'everyone talking about and using and creating for' the weight mapping, that was it.
My biggest disappointment in it all is JUST upgraded to PP2010 (less than a month ago)... from Poser 7, it was big leap and I've been away from it for a long time... saw an add on Amazon and said "what!? $50.00, for the latest poser and Pro to boot...?!?" Snag!
Only to find out it's NOT the latest and greatest, and the latest and greatest appears to blow it out of the water... So I spent $50.00 to be 2 years behind... I can live with that..Since I was about 5-6 years behind :) Plus now I have the Pro features...
Just wish I hadn't been dixlexic and read 2010 as 2012.. :)
Thanks,
V
Oh, it's totally cool. I figured I might be kind of overreacting. I've just seen the reception of new enterprises go from "cool stuff created by people like us" to "stuff pushed on us by people who are gods of CG that we have to depend on for content" in the matter of days, so I thought I'd say something just in case.
I dont know but I thinking Daz has Over reacted! that is just my opinion about what I see going on just after the release of this incredible add on to our favorite figure V4.... that and a lack of support for a new figure that the supposed gods of cg just released,
it is kind of smart though, if people wont buy it give it away......... if it still fails.....
Laugh....?
When SM announced that P9/PP2012 would have weight maps I put my mind off the whole Genesis thing. I simply knew the community would answer the call for weight mapped figures. AntoniaWM and V4WM are part of that answer. I have a lot of V4 stuff and I'd rather be able to use all of her existing stuff then having to buy all the ethnic, muscle, elite, creature, ++ etc packages for a new figure.
