Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
Pro 2012 is a huge step forward from Pro 2010. It introduces important features which represent the future for Poser. If you can afford 2012, I would go with that one.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking. He apologizes for this. He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.
Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below. His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.
Subsurface scatters - that's all that matters.
IMO
Go 2012
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
I'd go for Pro 2012.
Disclaimer:
I don't have it and can't run it on my system because it's old and held together with chewing gum and string. But when I upgrade, that's the way I'll go. Having seen and read about its capabilities, it represents a huge leap forward for Poser.
You have to trust me; I'm a Brit and a Yorkshireman. Everyone knows we're honest to a fault. :)

Laurie
I was unable to arrive at a clever rhyme for that part.

I thought maybe there was something poetical-like in your post. What's agood rhyme for "mapping"? Wrapping, tapping, trapping, slapping, zapping. Umm. Crapping, fapping. Yeh, that could maybe go the wrong way easily.

Even I'm stuck and I'm a bloody songwriter. :/

Agreeing with Cage and BB and Laurie and... sheesh, pretty much everyone. 2012 blows everything else out of the water. I'll probably get slapped for saying this, but if you want to learn to do your own weightmapping or feel you want to use renderer gamma correction (I'm getting that "what-is-your-grandmother's-opinion-on-protoplasm?" look now, i can tell ) then PP2012 is essential. If you feel you just want to use the features (consumer, not creator) then Poser 9 will do it for you. But don't discount the possibility of wanting to create your own: it comes on you when you least expect it.
Go with the best: you won't be kicking yourself later.

just a different opinion then: go for the cheapest, learn the main things, and take the first (and therefor cheapest) upgrade to PoserPro2014 when you're up to it.
I mean it. Learn camera and light handling like a pro photographer, learn to pose, to express, to morph, dynamic hair and clothes, atmospehrics, to interface with Photoshop and LuxRender, squeeze the most out of the FireFly Renderer. And get an art style for your works. A serious cartoon style (visit Lundqvist's gallery) does not require any scattering.
happy posing, welcome to the club.

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.
visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though
A serious cartoon style? If that's the goal, then Poser Pro anything is totally overkill. For that, get Poser 6 or 7, and go get Olivier's Art Materials at RuntimeDNA.com.

Hi, all. I am new to this form of art and have been very impressed with what I've seen on this sight. I am thinking of jumping in with both feet and am looking at Poser Pro 2010 (69.95) or Poser Pro 2012 (199.00 with student discount). Are there any thoughts given the price difference? I am willing to spend the extra if it's warranted. I am usually adept at picking up program fairly quickly and tend not to believe in a "beginner" anything. Thanks in advance.
