Thats no biggie - use the free ds and export it to poser.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

That assumes two things:

  1. That you have a machine that with run DS4

  2. That you are willing to install DS

I fail on both accounts

Well, it works is DS3 which is nice. It will be interesting to see if Dreamlight is going to DS only for their scenes or perhaps they'll be doing separate versions for Poser and DS. They apparently do a lot of 3D training at least partly built around DS. I'm sure like most companies, customer demand will dictate to a large degree what they do.

Actually, this was first:

Don't sweat it.  Let the vendors see how big the DS market is.

Dale B ( ) posted Tue, 14 February 2012 at 7:52 PM

Probably the best thing to do. If the DS market is large enough, I hope they will be very happy. If it isn't, well........

It actually only requires DS3.

They have had scenes that were Bryce and Carrara only for ages...

A mesh is a mesh and bitmaps are bitmaps. People have remarked that items don't support Poser specific features - some vendors may not have the time/expertise/desire to do justice to both. Perhaps it's an opportunity for more people to sell stuff to specific markets. In this case, if Dreamlight were to go DS only, maybe some Poser guru could make a deal with them to provide Poser versions of their products with high quality shaders and lighting.

It's been nice to have compatibility, but as the programs become more sophisticated and people demand that products utilize those advanced features, I wouldn't be surprised if some vendors go with one or the other. Personally, I'd contact them and ask about a Poser version before assuming anything. Even if they didn't want to do a Poser version, they might consider about selling a mesh and texture only version at a reduced price. That would work in a lot of applications without requiring export from DS.

What is the intention of starting this thread???

I understand some who spent $70 on V5 might be frustrated with the apparent lack of major progress on the "CR2 Exporter" but please!!,
Do we really need to stir up this tired, dented old septic tank of a topic yet again???  ..oh and no offense to Dreamlight really
but that set is not much better than some of the  FREE props I have seen at the google 3D warehouse
Hmann's "Kingdom of marekesh" was Way better IMHO

and it worked in poser

Actually that's not the first DS only scene that's come out at DAZ. Besides, if you actually look at Dreamlight's store, the majority of his stuff has been DS only for years. So getting upset over a scene that Dreamlight releases that DS only is a bit much.

Besides there are a few DS only scenes that are sold here as well. Check out the first few items from TruForm. They were DS Only when they were first released, although some of the stuff have been converted.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Tue, 14 February 2012 at 10:27 PM

Dreamlight works in DS and only rarely has ever had a Poser compatible product. They have been doing that for years, it is that they were one of the few that did it so not as many people cared.

Agreed.. And if that or any Daz item is so crucial to ones artistic plans  one can always grab a FREE copy of Daz's Flagship program( DS4PRO) until Feb 29.

load the prop , render it, Export it or whatever and Deal with life like an adult.

Just a thought.

And Vickie loves you too. Dreamland seems to be giving away a couple of their scenes on their training site. Not sure what the difference is between them and the ones on sale at DAZ. You have to give your email but it took me to the download link immediately. Hopefully you don't have them.

Dreamlight (Waldemar Belwon, a he, not a them) targets DS for some time, and makes things not for poser. Light sets, tutorials, and now he did an object. Wow.

PowerAge targets poser only, so their products say (Not tested with DS, all materials are optimized for use with Poser7 or higher. We dont support DS.) 164 hits in the Rendo ashop alone, and counting. Bagginsbill does not support DS either (VSS for DS?).

Ron's brushes are Photoshop only. Other vendors are Vue only, 3DS Max only, whatever.

Why Weep?

NO. IT'S NOT THE FIRST SCENE THAT IS DS ONLY AT DAZ

This one was released years ago:

http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/my-contemporary-view?item=6816

It was very easy to convert it to Poser.

They sell also items for Carrara only and for Vue only at DAZ. What is the problem?

Oh darn! I missed the fun. My beef is with Tkinter based Python apps that don't work on my Mac. Can I get some hugs! :-) Most notably "Skin Vue" . To be fair-I understand there are ways to enable "Tkinter" but I don't know enough to risk messing up WxPython abilities.

estherau ( ) posted Wed, 15 February 2012 at 5:32 PM

Yep, I have surrendered.

So anyway I used to mess with skin vue a little, but I was hoping he would introduce a tooning module that would toon the clothes as well as the skin, but he never did.

So I mostly toon my people in poser using shaderworks (and olivier's art materials) and then i import the tooned people etc into vue.

Love esther

PS Yes, I wouldn't mess with your Wxpython

I'm pretty sure that SkinVue is wxPython based. If the version you have uses tkInter, it must be quite an old one (something pre SkinVue 7).

tkInter on Macs only worked for P7, which was when the Python people got it working in the MacOS build.

No, tKinter-based python scripts worked in the Mac versions of Poser 8 and Poser Pro 2010, too. I still use those versions for scripts I can't do without and whose authors are so far not motivated to rewrite them for wxPython.

Kudos to Netherworks and Shaderworks for bypassing all the tKinter silliness and rewriting their scripts for wxPython.
