Subject: help - where does P12 look up the path to it's main runtime?

file_478777.jpg

please, where does P12 look up the path to it's main runtime?

runtime files are in the correct physical location, but P12 isn't seeing it.

my guesses to changing the ini file path aren't working.

how to tell p12 to look at E drive, not C ?

*This is no fault of poser, i transferred my main runtime from my old PC, where it was on my C drive.  but now P12 has it's own drive partition, all to itself.

You are best to add then via the Poser GUI not edit the ini. Is it too late for you to do that?

i added it as a runtime.  but I don't think Poser knows it's the main content runtime.

when i click on what should be the main content runtime, the bottom of the library window shows the c: path, though it says 'empty'.

the file with the path has to be within one of the runtime folders.  cuz, I installed to E drive, and the library was happy, until i copied my old pc main runtime in.  in hind sight, i should've just copied over the library/geometry/textures.  but,  i figured all the essential 64bit files were in the Poser root directory.

the answer could be the defaultposer.ini and i'm typing the syntax wrong?

i did the same thing for Poser 7, copying over the main runtime and P7 is hunky dory. But my old pc P7 was on an e: partition.

maybe the P7 defaultposer.ini has the answer

I see you installed it to C/:Program Files.  It's better to put it in C/:Poser, as 'Program files' is in the domain of Windows' User Account Control . (EDIT I had to use forward slashes, as the forum deletes backslashes)

I installed mine on my D: drive, but I installed Windows from scratch, so I created two partitions, one for Windows and one for data.  I'd uninstall and reinstall in c:/poser.....

i installed it to E:program filessmith micro etc, which is a partition on my internal hd

copied over my roaming files and runtime from old pc.  i shoulda did one at a time, would've helped narrow down the possibilites.

about to give up on defaultposer.ini.  checking the registry next.

you can find the right location in your libraryPrefs.xml. Sometimes this file gets broken, nobody knows why so its a good advise to have a backup of this file as there are also the external runtimes stored. If you delete this file Poser creates a new one but without the external runtimes

Do not add RUNTIME folder in POSER PRO 2012,9. Add 1 level upper folder which contains RUNTIME folder.

ex) E:MY SCENEMichale 4RUNTIME

In this case, ADD Michale 4 folder in POSER library browser, not RUNTIME.

Of course POSER PRO 2010, 8 or less version you must add RUNTIME instead of

Michale 4.

Thank you again so much.

deleting libraryPrefs.xml worked like magic.

man, how a lil bit of knowlege can improve quality of poser life.

it was worth it for all the time and paychecks invested.  IDL, SSS, cloth simulations in MINUTES.  Minutes, not hours and hours.  and finished rendering, too.

now i'm on 64bits i can go read the IDL threads, a lot more interesting now that i can try 'em out.

😄

And don't forget to make a copy of that file if you have external runtimes installed.
