I have version CS4, and am ready to upgrade. Does anyone know if 6 is due out anytime soon? If so, I want to wait so that I don't end up one behind again a couple of months later, like I did last time:/

According to releases, CS6 is due out within the next few months.

CS5 is out already.. if you want that.. CS6?? wow..

When CS6 does come out you can't upgrade from CS4. You would need CS5.

To clarify... the news releases from Adobe are quoting "This spring", this year, for release.

dreamer is right, you can't get two version behind PS or you'll pay dearly.  i think they'll have some window of migration if you just got CS5 before the release of 6. that might be the route to go.

it seems nowadays you have to upgrade whether you want (need) to or not, or face starting over (cost-wise)

Well, I work at a university, and I don't earn money with the stuff, so I can get it at the academic price (which is actually affordable! :)

That sucks that you can't fall even 2 versions behind....And for me, on my mac, the programs aren't very stable-but, there just aren't any alternatives.

The current version is CS5.5. There are already versions of CS6 available on those torrent sites. I found it in a link at Deviant Art. I believe you already got some good information above. I believe that you cannot upgrade from CS4, you'd probably have to pay the price. Ouch!

According to the Adobe Website:

If you have: Adobe Photoshop CS4, CS3, or CS2

You can upgrade to CS5 for US$199.

If you get cs5 now I believe you get a free upgrade to CS6.

You would need to first upgrade to CS5 before you could even upgrade to CS6.

I print my posters here with convenience

At the moment they've gone back on that, and are accepting upgrades from older versions (CS4, possibly CS3) for about six months.
