Subject: Remove morphs from pose files leaving translations & leave face expressions?

TheOwl ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2012 at 9:13 PM · edited Thu, 12 December 2024 at 12:43 PM

I have created a bunch of poses but they also contain morphs. I want to strip all of these poses of all the body morphs used in it and leave only the translations, arm/leg bends and twists etc.

I also downloaded alot of facial expressions but when I use them, it zeroes the injected facial morphs to the default M4/V4. This must stop!

What should I do?

try saving to library with 'save morphs with pose' (i think) unchecked.

on the facial thing.. try spawning a morph target of the head with desired morphs applied, i think when the head is Zeroed it only zeros common morphs and custom morphs are left alone...if it does zero it you only have one morph to reset...if its a facial animation , i think you are just sol on that one.... hope this helps...

:O)

Y'all have a great day.

Last time I dealt with this, there were only 2 options:

  - Save the expression again to the library - unchecking ALL non expression morphs

  - Use an intelligent text editor and strip the non-expression morphs

Loading the figure with only expression morphs injected will still zero out the other morph channels.

I have tried several cleaning tools, but none of them would do expressions

The text editor option is the easiest - if you have a text editor which does macros.

It is a pain, that is why I now always check if expressions leave morphs alone. If the description does not mention it, assume it does not leave them alone

I would think a script to remove all facial morphs from an expression woild be fairly easy to create, but as far as I know it hasn't been done yet. It sure is tedious to uncheck all the non-expression boxes when saving an expression. There are so MANY of them.

It's usually freebies posted by newbies who use expressions like Smile or Pucker as part of a character face, or facial morphs to create an expression, or a mix of both. I think it's because default V4 has a ton of facial morphs and expressions, and it isn't really clear that they shouldn't be used interchangably. Even if they do that part of it right, they often leave the facial morphs checked, so those get zeroed out when applied to a dial-morphed face. As Jafo said, it wouldn't have any effect if the custom face were saved as a new morph rather than a bunch of dial settings.

Try this. (FC2 fix for V4)

"Ever been disappointed by expression morphs that overwrite your face morphs?

This program (for V4 only) will clean out the morph channels from the FC2 (Poser Face File)that are not related to expressions.

Since it is a standalone Windows application, it will Work for Poser and DAZ|Studio."

The technical root of the issue is that exppressions are morphs, too...

Just downloaded it. I'll see if it works later.

I wish there is an automated way to strip the morphs in a pose file because there is I think almost a hundred poses that I have to strip the morphs from!

For $10 there's CleanPose here in the marketplace. I use it regularly to sort out badly made pose sets, both freebies and paid-for.

It depends on how the pose was made, and what data it contains, but for V4, M4, and related figures, stripping out the "bodyMorphs" actor will often do the trick.

I'll second cspear's suggestion. To clean up expressions (*.fc2) Use gsayer's FC2FIX.
