Subject: Eliminating Groucho eyebrows on Vicki

...okay, I admit it, I'm new at this program and having fun. BUT, for the life of me, what am I doing wrong when I can't seem to get rid of the default "Groucho Marx" eyebrows on my models and I've applied a texture map to the head? I thought selecting a transparency map and applying that to the "Transparency Section" of the Materials window would do that, but to no avail. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a tutorial on my web site for that. follow the link.

Vicki has two brow materials. eyebrow is on the head proper, is textured by the main head texture, is not to be used with any sort of transparency. uppereyebrows is for transparency use only. The two are either - or. Should not be used together. You should use a texture with upper but the actual fur is defined by the trans map. There is a morph which retracts the upper mesh or you can set the trans sliders to 100% max & min and no texture is you do not wish to use the upper. but upper brows as a transparency is one of Vicki's strengths and the better course is to paint out any brow textures on the head and use the upper brows exclusively. I have sample textures and transmaps on my site - you may wish to try them. I use a cloning tool to replace the painted textures and just use the closest good skin on the map. Look under Afiliated Artists for my link and go the Club Vicki.

I had the same problem at first. It's really a simple matter: 1. DO NOT set transparency on the base eyebrows (i.e. Eyebrows) 2. Set Transparency ONLY on UPPER EYEBROWS. This cures the problem. What you get if you put transparency on both Eyebrows AND Upper Eyebrows is basically a black hole looking into the darkness of the head interior, hence the black blotch. Give this a try. Melanie

I had wondered about this myself. Glad I decided to browse through the Forum. There's a world of info here and lots of good tips. Thanks.
