i've posted several different renders in my gallery, and have gone around and viewed other people's renders and made comments.....my question: why aren't people commenting on MY gallery items????? i mean, i get maybe one or two comments, but that's about it.....is there something i'm doing wrongg? i've only been using poser for less than a month, so i really need feedback on what i'm doing to improve my skills.....i'm posting the link to one of my items, if anyone in the forum cares to look....thanks!

don't take it personally. Often times people look but don't comment. I rarely comment unless I am blown away or see an effect I would like to accomplish...mainly for saving time I look and go! :)

And even when you are one of the infamous artists out there, people just comment on your work regardess if it really worth the praise and those that produce far better not samey images get lil comments. I have seen some work being churned out and well its kinda samey yet always gets high praise regardless. Its politics i guess :) One day i hope to be one of those infamous artists and get lots of good comments and make my mommy proud regardless if my work is just sooooo samey or not :)

personally, I don't comment on anyones work, no matter who they are, unless I have a good reason to. I also don't give a hoot if i get a comment or not. Of course, if I do get a comment, constructive or just any old comment, I enjoy it...I don't feel threatened by anyone or any clique, if there is one...I tend to stay A-Political where all that is concerned... One thing about being an artist in general (of any sort) you have to develope a thick skin. I greatly appreciate technical and artistic suggestions/advice/experience that I have gotten privately or on the forum. That means more to me than anything else...getting better, evolving, moving forward, that is what is important. Worrying about what other people think subjectively is only going to eat you up inside... if you let it, that is...

mizz - checked your gallery, and IMHO you're doing remarkably well, viewing- and comment-wise. Lots 'n lots of pics get no comments, and next to no viewings, either. Some of'em may need a bit more work, but other neglected images are superb. Yours, IMHO, show strong design and good light/shadow, although they might improve a smidgen if you also played a bit more with the various colors of light in light and ambient (such as blue/orange, red/green, yellow/purple). And then your pics just don't show enough skin ;-) I'm not trying to start another discussion pro/con nudity (after all, I'm a Boris devotee), it's just an observation on the "vox populi". As to suggestions for improving, I always suggest a self-imposed "virtual apprenticeship" : imitate a half-dozen of the pics you like best, like the masters of old who copied earlier master's paintings to learn. It's great practice, and while you're doing it, try to figure out just what it is that you like about your favorites - that'll tell you a lot about where YOU want to go with your art.

whoaaaaa, i just typed a response and it's MISSING....well, in case it shows up, i apologize in advance for the duplication: thanks to all who have responded to my post and ventured to my gallery!.....thip, i love your idea of virtual apprenticeship....i'm gonna put that in motion!....and i do need to work on the lighting...i'm gonna try to find a photography book or two in the pub library and see what i can glean from it.......again, thanks all!!!

If you are looking for more input from fellow artists, try posting your stuff at 3DCommune too. I post both here and there, and I find that I might typically get 50-70 views & maybe 2 - 3 comments on a picture here, where over there I may get 40 - 50 views and 10 - 15 comments. Lots of us post in both places.

oh, GREAT idea....i'm already signed up there....i'll get some stuff together and put them up....thanks!

here is a suggestion: create your art for you. If you are creating art for the sake of others or to get the attention of others often you will be disappointed when people do not comment on your work. You will find that people do view your art but do not comment. There are many many images, if you get even one comment I think you should take that as a compliment. Your art was viewed and moved someone to comment.

Lorraine:thats really the way to go!!!Doing it for your own and not for others.

SPIRESMEDIA ( ) posted Fri, 31 August 2001 at 12:49 PM

yes, lorraine, i agree!....and it isn't that i'm creating art for others, but that i am trying to learn from other more experienced artists' comments......but i think you're right: if i've received even one comment, i must be on the right track...smile......again, thanks all for your feedback!! tam aka mizzthangg
